the whole scrum between the two of them seemed like Kabuki theatre. I'm really curious now about what that private conversation was about between Hillary and Edwards.

I happen to think he's much more presidential, much more personable, and I'm more moved when he speaks than when she does.

Of course, if I had my dream ticket, (with Kucinich out of the picture), it would be Edwards/Obama.

The answer Obama gave was really good. It pointed out the ridiculousness of the question by making a joke out of it, didn't show disrespect for Toni Morrison who originally called Clinton that, and made Obama look charming and witty.

he could explain what Toni meant, and also point that, as a point of fact, he's not a black man. There are ways to express yourself honestly without getting anyone angry.

If Obama is quick witted enough to come up with a quip that makes him look charming, why shouldn't he say it?

He didn't because he understood the context in which those famous words were uttered by Toni Morrison. The words had NOTHING to do with the color of his skin.

but most of America doesn't, and he's talking to America, not to culturally-literate elites who know what Toni was talking about. he could enlighten the majority who do not know about Toni's context, and also making a point of fact to lay the issue to the rest. Bill Clinton is not black...why is that so hard for so many people to swallow? And why is it being "an angry black man" to say it?

can not take one look at President WJ Clinton and determine that he is not Black? It is my humble opinion that most everyone on the planet with access can make that determination without being "culturally-literate elites."

what I meant was specifically related to the context that Toni Morrison spoke off. What people without culture literacy cannot determine is the context that Toni Morrison spoke off. Just that.

Purely on a visual examination, everyone with some common sense can determine that Bill Clinton is a black man.

As for the implications of that argument, I think it is very dangerous to leave up in the air or to allow space for discussion regarding whether or not Bill Clinton was a "black president". For many whites, Bill Clinton was "good enough" for blacks (and therefore, no more progress, in the form of a black president, is needed). I challenge that. Arguments, if not matched, have power. Consider how they swiftboated Kerry, or how they're trying to swiftboat Obama for being a Muslim. Repeat the lie often enough, and it becomes a "fact".

Bill Clinton was just like any other white man in power. He just gets a little more admiration from blacks for throwing a few more crumbs their way.

And I happen to believe that most of America is foolish enough to vote for a President like George W. Bush or to fall for political propaganda (like the type that led us into the war with Iraq). Don't ask me about my thoughts regarding the regular American...because you're not going to like it.

Not exactly a flattering comparison however you choose to read it.

but the public doesn't know this. THe public thinks he's labeled the black president because he somehow catered to the "black agenda". It is isn't so.
