McCain is a very difficult opponent. Romney is a cake walk.

McCain versus Obama: McCain is the one who said, "Obama wouldn't know and RPG from a bong," so that pretty much defines the shape of that race. And McCain would rob Obama of much of his independent male support.

McCain versus Clinton: People like McCain (though they shouldn't) and he has major appeal to male independents, which is Hillary's Achilles heel.

Romney versus Obama: The least authentic candidate ever versus a man whose projection of authenticity is the heart of his campaign. A media darling versus someone the media can't stand. And black and Mormon are about equal handicaps.

Romney versus Clinton: If Romney faced the wildcat performance Hillary offered in the last debate he would cry. He's not a "pressure player" and Hillary would eviscerate him. She's mean enough to refer to him as "multiple choice Mitt", and once that sticks the campaign is all but over.

McCain has his weak points, and he would not electrify his Republican base.

Mitt would have no money problems, and he might be persuasive enough to change positions in a way that the Republican base could go along with him.

The media cannot seem to grasp the numbers... they don't feel prejudice toward Mormons so they can't really believe it exists.

The MSM also cannot believe that half the country thinks the world is 6,000 years old, because nobody THEY know thinks that.

It's the same way it took the media a year to figure out how unpopular Bush had become... they saw the polls, but they discarded them.

The MSM always patronizingly thinks fundys are just pretending to think these weird things.

Conservative Christians take their religion seriously, and they consider Mormonism a quasi-Satanic cult. When 35% of people say they could never vote for a Mormon, those aren't all Democrats.
