brought crashing down to earth.

What is obvious now is that he's a good public speaker, a lousy debater, and is uncomfortable and short fused under the least amount of pressure.

Good preaching might have been enough if he was also seen as more sincere, consistent, more of an idealistic liberal but he's not. Just a regular old politician with three years in the senate.

Stick a fork in the Obama campaign.

He won Iowa, which is less than 3% black. Strong 2nd in NH, 3% black. Strong 2nd (popular vote) or win (delegates) in NV, less than 5% black.

they had room to let Hillary take the hit for a few days. And it may have backfired. But he still may come out of it. Politically speaking, it's an eternity from now until super Tuesday.

72. I don't agree. He could have stepped in on day one, BEFORE the fire.
IMO, the commentary might have still raged, but he would have been on the record, refuting it. Instead he let it ride for a few days before addressing it.

You don't get credit when you wait until outside parties start chastizing you and your opponent for letting the situation become worse. The Clintons are just not perceived as racists by most of the country. Letting those accusations stand for so long made Obama look bad, even though he was probably letting it happen to shake up SC a bit.

Would Obama be a distant third with whites if he were white? Would he be at 70% with blacks if he were white? We know the answers to these questions. The aftermath of SC will be ugly because race is written all over the results.

Only being at 60-70% with blacks (while Edwards is stuck at 4%) is hiding this weakness. It will all come out in the open on Super Tuesday in states with small black populations.
