Edwards jabs Clinton for leaving SC

Edwards jabs Clinton for leaving SC

By SUSANNE M. SCHAFER, Associated Press Writer

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. - Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards criticized rival Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday for leaving South Carolina in the run-up to the state's primary, saying residents should question whether the New York senator would return if she became president.

"After the debate she flew out and she's been gone and she won't be back until I don't know — later in the week or until primary day," Edwards told a crowd of about 150 people in this small city. "What are the chances she's coming back when she's president of the United States?"

Clinton took part in Monday night's debate in Myrtle Beach and then left to campaign in states scheduled to hold contests Feb. 5, including California, New Mexico and New Jersey. She's expected to be back in South Carolina on Thursday, and her husband has been campaigning for her around South Carolina this week. Barack Obama also has been campaigning in South Carolina in advance of Saturday's primary.

Edwards is emphasizing his biography in an attempt to gain traction here even as polls show him lagging both rivals. A South Carolina native and son of a mill worker, he stresses themes focused on the middle class and an economic plan that would bring help to family farmers, and jobs and broadband Internet connections to rural areas.

3. That's campaigning
After the SC primary is he still going to be there? Or will he move on to the Super Tuesday states like everyone else?

4. Jumping on the bandwagon with cheap shots and lies
Once again, why should I believe in Edwards? He knows as well as anybody that one person cannot be everywhere at once.

Is Edwards going to spend the entire time after South Carolina's primary on Jan 19th until Florida's primary on Jan 29th only in Florida to show them he cares? (Or is he going to ignore the state because the PARTY matters more than the PEOPLE of Florida?)

There are 20 primaries on Feb 5th. Which state is Edwards going to choose to be in the entire time between Feb 1st and Feb 5th and which 19 states is he going to not go to "until I don't know — later in the week or until primary day"?

What are the chances he won't even bother going to Maine which has their caucus on Feb 1st. Shouldn't he live up to his words and spend all the time after Florida's primary until Maine's caucus right there in Maine showing the good people in Maine that he cares about them?

What his little cheap shot at Clinton proves is that he is no better than any other liar. Say what the crowd wants to hear and damn the reality. Sometimes cheap shots are really, really expensive.
