My Letter To My Local Paper Regarding John Edwards
There are more than two candidates in the presidential race

The corporate media bombardment we have seen these past months to the point where we are being made to believe that there are only two Democratic candidates in this race now is misleading. There is another candidate in this race who is standing up for the middle class, our environment, and American workers of this country and who is standing up against the corporate lobbyist stranglehold on our government. That candidate is John Edwards. Senator John Edwards has been speaking truth to power about addressing and eliminating poverty in our country, providing healthcare to all Americans, ending the war in Iraq, and putting forth a plan to green our economy to provide green collar jobs to sustain our environment. While Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama spend time on the campaign trail and on debates bickering with each other, John Edwards is discussing issues with the people and staying above the fray because he realizes the importance of having a president now who is serious about solving our problems and helping us bring our country back to us instead of just being a “ rock star.” Of course, being a candidate fighting the status quo and not taking money from corporate interests like the other two candidates are doing, he is not getting the coverage they are because in the American political system if you aren’t spending millions on your campaign you don’t get noticed. And in a political season that is the subtlest form of voter disenfranchisement and it should not stand.

I then think it is about time the people stood up to the media in this country that filters through only what they think we need to know or what they only want us to know to preserve their status quo. I think it is time to take a stand as a nation against the corporate forces that have decimated our freedoms and held us hostage to policies that do nothing to bring about prosperity for all and make a bad name for those companies that truly do stand up for environmental and economic equality. It is the people who should dictate policy from Washington DC not lobbyists, and John Edwards has promised that Washington lobbyists will not gain entrance to the White House when he is president. No other Democratic candidate has made that pledge and unless they do, how can they say they are for “change?” This election is about the future and the policies of the candidates for the future to get us back on track.

I like John Edwards’s climate change platform and the fact that he is against nuclear and liquid coal and for innovative biofuels to get us off oil that will clean our air while bringing this country prosperity and jobs. His stance on eliminating poverty is the most comprehensive, and his economic policies have been endorsed by leading economists. I also like his economic stimulus plan that looks to green the economy to give us long term relief instead of a quick fix that will really fix nothing, and the fact that he has a plan whereby young people could attend their first year of college for free at a State university if they agree to work ten hours a week.

His policies are specifically geared to uplifting the very groups that have been overlooked in this country, which includes his Predatory Lending Bill that I support. Which is also why he was recently endorsed by Martin Luther King III, the eldest son of Nobel Laureate and civil rights activist Martin Luther King. Jr. who also spent his life fighting against poverty and injustice. John Edwards has been a great advocate for ending poverty for much of his life and defending Americans against corporate malfeasance and in seeking economic equality for all regardless of race, creed or gender. And while his election would be nothing of historical value in the sense of race or gender, it will be historical in the sense that the middle class in this country and those who have been forgotten will have a place at the table they have been excluded from for far too long which will be the first step in returning Democracy as well. You can then vote for the candidate that MSNBC or CNN tells you is in the lead or vote for someone simply because of their gender or race. Or you can look at all the policies, think for yourself, and then vote your conscience. And if you do, it will lead you to John Edwards. http://www.johnedwards.com
