They succeeded.

Obama is in the video saying something positive about Reagan. The Clintons understand that Democrats who lived through Reagan hate Reagan, especially union Democrats.

The clip is a free pro Clinton ad. All the rest is noise. Obama was rope a doped.

1. Obama's remarks upset me tremendously
But I will vote for him in the general if he wins the Dem nomination

4. Obama made a stupid comment.
He wanted it both ways. He should have said that Reagan transformed this nation for the worse. He was trying to use him as an example of change without specifying the damage he had done. Obama wanted to get the support of people who think very highly of Reagan. That was his mistake.

5. I guess I don't think Dem voters are as dumb as you (or by extension Hill, I guess) thinks they are.

I lived through that era and knew exactly what he was getting at.

We'll see if people really are as dumb as you think they are.

(Sorry about the awkward subject line, btw. Technically, it should be "I guess I don't think Dem voters are as dumb as you, or by extension, Hillary, think they are." Oh well. Either way, I still don't think most Dem voters are that easily played.)

8. I must be pretty dumb, then because I didn't like what Obama said either.
Reagan was a disaster and any Dem bringing this up during a campaign should damned well say so.

10. You can't be dumb if you've got Wellstone as your DU pic. :-)
But I think most Dem voters, if you asked them if they would like to see the Democratic party have the same sort of public resurgence and renewal as the Republican party had in the 80s, would say, "Hell, yes!" And I think most people are not so quick to judgment that they don't understand that that's what Obama was talking about.

6. First off, I agree with Frances
:hi:

No one forced Obama to make those remarks. But I think that the under-35 crowd needs to understand that Reagan was a terrible person who did some unbearable things, and masked it with what some (not I) found to be a pleasing demeanor and ability to communicate. I always thought he was as phony as a three-dollar bill and time has not erased that perception. So to hear anything about him - even if it was his ability to attract the crossover vote of Joe Six Pack - that is discussed in a positive light is physically revulsive. The Clintons did not originate that interview. Well before they - or Edwards - made any remarks about Obama's Reagan comments, I was just cringing at what I'd heard.

7. I guess the Clintons forced him to say those things as well?
I don't want Hillary for President and increasingly don't want Obama, either.

I saw the clip. He said what he said. I don't like what he said. None of that has anything to do with Bill and Hillary.
