Bill Clinton gets upset with CNN reporter

(CNN) – Bill Clinton became visibly upset Wednesday over comments by a prominent South Carolina Democrat that compared the former president's actions on the trail to those of infamous Republican strategist Lee Atwater.

In an interview with CNN's Jessica Yellin, Dick Harpootlian, a former chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party and a supporter of Barack Obama, said some of Bill Clinton's recent remarks on the campaign trail were appeals based on race and gender. He said the comments were meant to "suppresses the vote, demoralize voters, and distort the record," and said they were "reminiscent of Lee Atwater."

Clinton sharply disputed the charge, and lashed out at Yellin for raising the question.

"You live for this. This hurts the people of South Carolina," he said. "Because the people of South Carolina come to these meetings and ask questions about what they care about. And what they care about is not what's going to be in the news coverage tonight, because you don't care about it.

Bill's right, reporters should be asking questions about things like this:
Bill Clinton May Get Payout of $20 Million
By JOHN R. EMSHWILLER
January 22, 2008; Page A1

Former President Clinton stands to reap around $20 million -- and will sever a politically sensitive partnership tie to Dubai -- by ending his high-profile business relationship with the investment firm of billionaire friend Ron Burkle.

15. Bill won his elections by being the opposite of Lee Atwater
It was W's father who ran the Willie Horton ad and played upon white fears of AFrican Americans.

Bill has never been racist.

I think both Hillary and Obama should back off their attacks. Both are hurting our Dem chances in the general.

I DO get the impression that if it's a Clinton WH, there will be no room for Barack Obama. I don't think the Clintons are known for their forgiveness.

My life under W hasn't been good.

33. I want a Dem in the WH too
and I think Edwards would be best.

But Bill went over the line, injecting lies and ethnicity into the campaign, "Barack Hussein Obama," "drug use," Barack's opposition to the war as "fairy tale", calling him "kid" and so on.

You'll not that neither Edwards nor Obama is calling Hillary old or fat or a lesbian. It's just bull.

I lived better under Bill too. I hate W. I liked Hillary. I voted for her twice. But the lies and ad hominum attacks and the Southern strategy are too much.

34. Clinton again gets the Punjab Remark wrong
Clinton repeatedly brings up the D-Punjab remark. That remark was bad, but it was someone from the Obama campaign, not Obama, who said it and reportedly Obama was quite angry about the remark coming from his campaign.

In this tape, Clinton now says that Obama said it. Obama didn't and furthermore he said it was wrong at the time and the remark was made months ago.

Bill Clinton repeats this all the time. I suspect he knows he's stretching the truth.

51. You know the word "sexist" around here no longer has any
meaning because you all have abused it so much and used it in situations where it just does not even begin to apply, this being one of them.

The point is that Bill Clinton was left to campaign for her in South Carolina while she skipped the state.

In the original post there is a quote by Clinton that makes heavy mention about "concern" for South Carolinians and yet Hillary is not there. That's why it's confusing to me. If there's such concern, why is she gone?

My bet is that when she decided they were no longer politically useful to her so she bailed on them and went to greener pastures.

John Edwards is saying the same thing I am and he's right to do so.
