Clinton's sexual remarks in SC debate plays on racial stereotypes.

So far, I've heard no one speak of this, but I caught it immediately. The comment came when Hillary spoke of Obama's 100+ "present" votes during the debates. Now, obviously she doesn't know my memory what all those votes were. Her campaign strategists who prepared her for the debate are who give her select examples from those votes. Which two "present" votes did she drudge up against her black male opponent? The only two votes of the 100+ "present" votes were two having to do with sexual issues such as sexual predators.

Edit: Obama isn't my #1 candidate and I'll be the first to admit some of the racial accusations against the Clinton's are overplayed if not bogus. But some in the last month have displayed a clear trend in the Clinton strategy for Feb. 5th.

general, I don't recall anyone saying the Clintons were racist. If you can find a quote to that effect by a member of Obama's team (except for Jesse Jackson Jr, who I freely admit went overboard), then I'd like to see it. I think the Clintons were warned by a variety of folks not to stir the race pot ahead of SC, but that was it--that's not the same as calling them racist.

If we're going to play that game, I think the most obvious racial stereotype I heard during the debate was when Obama said he'd like to see Bill Clinton dance first before answering whether Bill is the "first black President."

But she knows the strong feelings everybody has toward sexual predation. Are you suggesting people associate sexual predation with a particular racial group? That's something I'm not familiar with, unless that's something unique to the South.

predators. I've studied U.S. race history so I have academic background on these issues and the use of them in campaigns in America. I'm not charging racism for a candidate who's not even my #1 for mere enjoyment.

I lived through the 60s when we were first made aware of, in public discourse as well as in academia, the association of black males with heightened or uncontrolled sexual energy.
But this is what Clinton said,

"And on issue after issue that really were hard to explain or understand, you know, voted present on keeping sex shops away from schools, voted present on limiting the rights of victims of sexual abuse, voted present time and time again."

I disagree that the words "sex shop" and "sexual abuse," in this day and age, conjure up the images of black men. If she had mentioned "rape," I think your argument might be stronger. So, I don't believe Clinton was playing on white fears of black men, but on conservative social values in the case of "sex shops" and on real concerns of women in the case of victims of sexual abuse.

Looking for ammunition to use against an opponent that makes him/her look soft on sexual offenders - especially child molesters - is Op Research 101. This has NOTHING to do with race!

The present vote issue is bogus to me, because I have a better working knowledge of the IL General Assembly than your average voter.

But from a strictly tactical standpoint, if she's gonna bring it up, she has to go for something splashy. And that is crime. She mentioned a juvenile offender bill, and the adult zoning bill. That is what scares suburban women - whether the opponent is white or black.
