True Confessions of a Rethuglican

Yesterday, it came to my attention that some hay was made about whether I slap a D or an R after my name.

Unlike some who like to take cheap potshots from behind anonymous screens and alert buttons, I "confessed" when I first found out about DU, and sought to participate here.

I understand that I was called some rather unsavory things yesterday. I also understand that the decision was made to let the thread roll on and on (in fact, a copy was sent to me).

It first appeared here in October 2006, when I was working hard to try to see at least one house flip Democratic.

P.S. I sure hope the eventual Democratic nominee (who I hope is as progressive as they come) doesn't need any wayward socially-progressive, fiscally-responsible GOP voters come the fall. Or, if the nominee does need those votes, I sure hope such wayward independent-minded voters have thick skin at being called a rethug, or any of the other terms that seem to be tossed around so lightly.

I respect your ability to be forthright though, like I believe I said in that other thread. There are some great people here, some that I almost always disagree with, and a lot in the middle that I don't know, but I try not to assume that the few I disagree with accurately represent anything but themselves.

Also, keep in mind that for many of us, we're sick of being called names and worse, and sometimes we strike back, so to speak. Childish? Sure, but no more than you calling Bush "Shrubya" if you think about it. Finally, try to remember that sometimes we get trolls on here, so not only are some responses going to be suspect, but even the ones who are being up front might feel resentment toward the party which has pretty much done everything they say they hate - fiscal irresponsibility, weakening the Constitution and the borders, etc.

... but it was an interesting anthropological study.
