The Clintons created a Party of No Ideas and warmed the Gipper's heart
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 06:33 PM by Armstead
Listening to the Clinton's new commercial falsly characterizing Obama as an advocate for conservative policies, one has to ask why the Clintons are tossing rocks while living in a GOP Glass House.

Other than having the 'nads to raise taxes at the beginning of Clinton 1's term, I'd like to hear what new ideas the Clintons were responsible for -- aside from co-opting the GOP Corporate CONservative agenda and warming the heart of The Gipper by advancing his agenda.

They drove through Bush's NAFTA and the "free market" agenda of "free-trade." They later crammed through the corporate wet dream of opening up China to sweatshop labor.

They helped the GOP throw poor people to the wolves -- and provided fresh meat for the cheap labor conservat6ives -- with Welfare Reform.

They presided over further deregulation, privatization and outsourcing of public services. They allowed mega-mergers to continue to form an Economy of Monopolization.

They endorsed the policies and helped to canonize that apostle of Milron Friedman and Ayn Rand, the wonderful Alan Greenspan.

They helped Rush and the GOp to to characterize liberals and progressives as the "out of touch left."

10. Now that was a Profile in Courage!
Remember how Bill stood up to all those well funded and heartless Anti-School Uniform groups?
Man, he was relentless. A man on a mission.
Still brings a tear to my eye, remembering how he marched through Selma leading the nation's school children in a noble quest for khaki pants and blue oxford button downs.

The Dream Will Never Die!

14. To be fair, the tax hikes started in 1990, during GHWBush's term
However, the rest of this post is spot on. They did a good job of co-opting GOP ideas and turning them into Democratic ideas.

You're absolutely right about Greenspan. Most of the current economic mess can be lain at his feet. He kept interest rates artificially low and encouraged consumers to borrow, to cover up the fact that their wages were stagnating. Clinton should have fired his ass and put somebody else in there.

16. Responsibility for losing, and failing to regain both houses of Congress belongs to him, regardless
Obama has said several things that sound like he has been reading Gary Hart. His comments about the Republicans putting forth ideas are similar to Hart's comments from 2004:

Hart was the campaign manager for George McGovern’s quixotic 1972 campaign. The epilogue to his memoir of that campaign, “Right from the Start,” said, “The Democratic Party, under penalty of irrelevance and extinction, must bring forward a new generation of thinkers who are in touch with the real world … ”

That hasn’t happened. Hart says he doesn’t know why.

Bill Clinton did not bring forth this new generation of Democratic ideas. “He left no legacy,” Hart said. “I’ve known him for 30 years. He’s a tactician.”

On the contrary, Hart says that big, creative thinking about American politics for the past 20 years has been dominated by the healthy competition on the Right between neo-conservatives, Christian conservatives and Gingrichians.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/04/30/opinion/meyer/main551733.shtml

Bill Clinton was and is a tactician for himself and his wife, not the pary as a whole.
