My predictions for SC and beyond : SC race is wide open, the rest is clearer
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 06:57 AM by robbedvoter
1.SC is wide open - for the 3 candidates
Polls are bogus as they fail to account for 2 things:
1. how many women will show for Hillary
2. how many GOPers will show for Obama (the "Bush OK-ed his spiritual adviser endorsing Obama was directive to go Obama rather than Edwards like they did in the past)
3. If Hillary loses, she'll give a concession speech, thanking volunteers
4. if Obama loses - he'll either give the victory speech again or blow town again and put somethng strange on his website
5. Whether Hillary finishes 2nd or third by next Tuesday (Florida) it'll be forgotten.
6. She will handily win most of the Super Tuesday, settling the primaries
7. GD Primaries will cease to be necessary (the wall between the 2 that is) - the exilees will be able to come back from GD. There'll be some Clenis threads, some "but the polls!they cheated" ones, and some "our delegates will stay ours forever" threads on page one right after the results - but eventually people will start remembering Bush, GOP, GE again - and Raygun will lose his appeal on DU.
8. Harmony will never rule (nor should it)- but the number of RW sourced threads against Hillary will diminish - somewhat.

Bookmarking for possible gloating later is encouraged.

1. Want to hear something truly bizarre? Edwards leads Obama amongst Republicans in SC
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 06:39 AM by jpgray
According to Reuters:

Obama led among most sub-groups, including men, women, liberals, conservatives, young, low-income, and union household voters. Clinton edged Obama out among the oldest voters, above age 70. Edwards led Obama among Republicans.

http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSN2418608720080124?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0

I found this very surprising, and I'm not sure how to account for it. (No, I don't believe Obama is often the choice of Republicans voters because he's a secret Republican--his bipartisan rhetoric and charisma win over even some who disagree with him on policy.)

2. Well, you might go with the obvious:
Both racism and sexism or stronger strains in the repub party than in the dem fold.

4. Yet Obama leads amongst conservatives, so it is likely more complex than that
Conservatives, of course, are not always the same as Republicans. And Republicans are not always the same as sexists and racists. (At least, speaking in terms of voters at large.)

21. The polling has been all over the place for the past few days
Hillary improved 10 points overnight in one of the Zogby 3 day rolling polls. The only consistant thing i'm seeing, looking across different polls, is that JE is gaining.

5. I think I know, but I wish I didn't
You are talking about South Carolina REPUBLICANS there remember. Barack Obama is black. I know, I know, it sounds like a smear but it's true, I read it on the internet. He really IS black. If you are a Republican in some places maybe you can get past that but in South Carolina I think it matters a lot more.

6. That's a possible factor. But from the same poll Obama leads amongst conservatives
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 06:49 AM by jpgray
So I think it may be somewhat more complex than that.

but for a loser to their guy

7. I am not too surprised. In 2004, 70% of Edwards voters were Bush supporters
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 06:51 AM by robbedvoter
It may be that some failed to catch up with the new Edwards/the spiritual adviser memo - GOP-ers ain't that sharp. But it reinforces my prediction that SC is wide open. meaning - anyone can win.

9. That could also be the case. He's also been the victim of fewer widely-known attacks
Which could also influence those Republicans who want to choose among the Democrats--if they don't know much about him, it could be a vote for "generic Democrat."

8. 4. if Obama loses -
MSM and Obama supporters will scream for weeks he won, and they will twist and turn the "soft" delegate count even though the "soft" delegates are only in their minds eye vis-a-vis Nevada, and all the while they will push for a recount and accuse the real winner of cheating vis-a-vis New Hampshire.

Obama has established a pattern.

12. My prediction: Hillary will lose and and continue to employ the disgusting
Southern Strategy she's eagerly embraced. The Clintons will make out the he only won because of the black vote, and they'll attempt to diminish the results.

They established their pattern many years ago: They'll do anything to win- no matter how sleazy.

16. Do you have actual examples, or do you base your pomp on what others say?
I believe you would be hard pressed to find actual examples of this.

We are all imperfect, each and every one of us, including the Clintons. I truly believe, however, the Clintons have more integrity than the Obamas, and that's on a relative basis, of course.

One of the most critical aspects in my current evaluation of the Obamas, which I did not conceive of when I put them in my top three, is their pretending they knew nothing of the slum lords and those living in the abject poverty of the slum lord environment of Chicago.

There's Cali. I wonder if I'm psychic? I can always pick them out ahead of time. Just look for the one that is the most cryptic and based on something hypothetical and slanderous in nature. And Cali is at the other end of it.

25. Yep. Just do a search on Cali
and every post is rabid in nature. I have never seen anyone who worshiped a candidate like Cali. Very scary that Cali can never find ONE negative on Obama. All of our candidates have some negatives and some positives. Personally, I would like to throw them all in a blender and mix them to create the perfect candidate!!

seriously.

If he loses a significant lead he's had again like NH, then i have to say he's totally finished.

Zogby saying "change is in the air - too many undecideds"

And let me spell it out here:
out of 3 possible outcomes, 2 settle the primary.
Only an Obama win - a considerable one not a nail biter - keeps him in the race. Intil Super Tuesday.

32. Demo info confirming the wild joker scenario:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4208857&mesg_id=4209321
Interesting demographics about SC. From a state government site. I believe they are current.

Total registered voters in SC: 2,246,242

Total voted in Repub primary: 442,789

That leaves: 1,803,453

Of that non-white voters: 629,000

That leaves total white voters 1,174,353

Non-white voters in SC have shown up by some 20% more than white voters.

The demographics in the exit polling on Saturday will tell all about how the two groups voted.

33. If Hillary wins SC...
Which I think is unlikely, you can be sure some combination of fraud, racism or vote-rigging will be alleged in the lefty blogosphere...

And a recount will be demanded...

The pattern of "progressive" incredulity that anyone would would support Hillary demands that another explanation be found...

The pattern doesn't change
