4. Poor little Obama! He's so small, so meek, so weak!
Yeah, that approach (and that image) is going to inspire a lot of people.

Tony Auth is a great editorial cartoonist, but like most of the rest of the press corps, he's hated Bill Clinton (and Hillary by extension) for years. It's a grudge (and an Achilles' Heel) with them. And in his reactionary anger, he has just portrayed Barack Obama as a small, weak man.

Meanwhile, most people will conclude that Obama's surrogates are replaying the Republican dogpile on Bill Clinton.

That is not something Obama supporters should want to happen.

5. You are aware that a cartoonist could make multiple points at once.
1. The Republicans are assholes.
2. Bill is an asshole.
3. Obama is going to be crushed by the assholes.

13. Or maybe Tony Auth hates Bill Clinton
1. Auth hates Clinton.
2. Auth lost his temper.
3. Auth portrayed Clinton as fierce and strong, and Obama as meek -- and weak. This was a mistake.

Your own interpretation, common among Obama surrogates, will have a long-term destructive effect. You (not necessarily YOU, but Obama supporters) will have a perfect excuse to justify an Obama loss. It will reinforce the idea of Bill Clinton as being ten feet tall and made of steel -- and Obama as a helpless little lamb.

Of course, Obama supporters will also repeat "the Clintons are liars, the Clintons are liars, the Clintons are liars". But the public will not believe it -- they will hear it and think, "just like the Republicans, only whinier".

Seriously, now -- I do NOT want to see Barack Obama's career impaired by his surrogates' complaining, no matter how inadvertant and well-intended it may be. Obama's supporters MUST stop portraying their candidate as a weakling. After Hillary retires from the presidency in 2016, I want Obama to be seasoned, skilled, tough, and fresh enough to take on the challenges posed by the New Whig Party (the Republican Party having disbanded by that time).

11. They are big because they are enraged at the upstart Obama daring to run for president
without resorting to their ugly and despicable tactics--politics as usual.
