***FLASHBACK*** Bill to Rove: "Hey, you did a marvelous job, it was just marvelous what you did"
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 02:31 PM by jefferson_dem
From August 15, 2007 - -

...

"Hey, you did a marvelous job, it was just marvelous what you did," Clinton told Rove, according to the book "The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008," by John F. Harris and Mark Halperin. "I want to get you down to the library. I want to talk politics with you. You just did an incredible job, and I'd like to really get together with you and I think we could have a great conversation."

...

And why not? Harris and Halperin wrote last year that Rove and the Clintons shared some of the same understandings of how politics work, and the two authors even crafted a list they titled "What Hillary Clinton and Karl Rove Know About the Way to Win the White House in 2008." Clinton, they wrote, has "borrowed some strategies" from Rove for dealing with the news media, enemies and anticipated attacks. "Like Karl Rove," they wrote, "Hillary Clinton knows that playing offense is better than playing defense. . . . Hillary Clinton obviously dislikes Bush's policy goals, but she appreciates some of the methods he has used to achieve them."

1. No Democrat should be calling Karl Rove "marvelous."

4. Let me get this straight...
It's ok to fawn over Rove, but it's not ok to point out the historical fact
that "Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of American politics"?

I don't recall Bill running for office last summer
Besides, do you really want to start giving Obama that same kind of scrutiny?

32. I agree...
I think their ham-handed, manipulative tactics are soooo yesterday.

That's what I found so refreshing about Edwards and Obama. Sure,
they would go after each others' positions and draw distinctions
between their policies, but neither of them orchestrated this
convoluted, "gotcha" bullshit.

I really forgot what dogs the Clintons are.

For people like myself, who were drawn to Obama because he
represented hope, optimism and a new kind of politics--this
Clinton crap is the reason we were looking for something that
was atypical.

I've had it with these decades of Rovian style, slash-and-burn
attacks.

Bush won that pissing contest twice, and we all understand that
those types of elections do not demonstrate who the best candidate
is.

You'll love this one.

Clinton slams Bush on economic policies.

"NO chance whatsoever to see that headline from an Obama campaign appearance. NONE. EVER. That, in a nutshell, is the biggest difference between Obama and Clinton."

Yea I know Obama wnats to unite the parties.

16. Rove did do a marvelous job.
His job was to get a dumb, pretend cowboy elected TWICE over intelligent and well respected opposition. I have to tip my hat to him too, that was a tough job and he did it.

17. PROJECTION: When Bill Clinton censored a reporter yesterday: "YOU live for this!"
No, Bill Clinton, et. al., love to sink to Atwater/Roves "divide and conquer" political dirty tricks.

It doesn't matter if the entire Democratic Party gets pushed to the kool-aid drinking corporate right OR if the wounds suffered during the primaries, all but destroy OUR Party.

To The Clintonian DLC - this is "do or die" - they must have that 3rd Term in the Executive Branch. They hunger for this win (at all costs) like Bush salivated for war with Iraq. :(

18. OMG.
Hillary praises Reagan in Brokaw's book, then she says she wants to use Bush sr. as a diplomat to speak in our name.

Now we learn Bill is praising Rove ?

Fuck these traitors, how dare they attack and distort what Obama said.

Imagine you are a democrat that is A-OK with Bill Clinton praising Karl Rove....the betrayal is profound.

If they believe this is uniting the base they are dead wrong-you just have to read comments posted around the internet to see that many Dems find this despicable.

If you want many more years of bitter, ugly, fighting and a divided nation, then Hillary is your candidate. I'll pass.
