Why is Hillary Clinton giving a speech the morning after Super Tuesday?
Hillary is going to deliver a major policy speech tomorrow morning.

IMHO - The timing is clearly meant to interfere with the media coverage of the Super Tuesday results thus taking time away from Democrats who are running for President.

Why choose to deliver the speech on a day when the media will be discussing the potential Democratic nominee all day? (Because Hillary wants to be the nominee??)

This seems to be in incredibly poor taste, much like hijacking a thread around DU, Hillary is going to try to hijack the media away from the contenders and towards her.

So, what's Hillary up to?

1. Why don't you ask over at Free Republic?
I'm sure they have plenty of theories.

6. Because it always seems...
the people who get their undies in a knot over Hillary Clinton & her supposed presidential aspirations are freeps.

Look, there's only so many days in the calendar for the Senate to be in session and so many hours in each day for an individual senator to speak. Why should we assume this is anything but her slotted time to speak? If she REALLY wanted to distract people from Super Tuesday, why not speak today?

3. Slow down tough guy
How about some more information. What is the speech about? Where is it being held? What would make this so monumental that this would completely dominate the news cycle?

4. Seems to me she is doing the right thing in waiting until AFTER
Super Tuesday. There will NEVER be a good time for Hillary to give a speech according to some.

5. A funny speech - lots of laughs - will cause what problem?
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 11:10 AM by papau
Where did the phrase "major policy speech" come from.

Did you drop by her website and see her schedule?

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) delivers a major address on manufacturing in a forum sponsored by the Center for American Progress at the Mayflower Hotel, D.C.

The advance word is that she will use humor to make her points

13. Are you joking or serious?
I like her, but I don't think she'll be VP, for a number of reasons.

9. Um, Hillary gives speeches all the time
and they don't take away from coverage of the Dem candidates. Have you seen media coverage of these other speeches? Of course not. That's my point.

Assuming Kerry does well tonight, and every indication is he will, tomorrow will be a great news day for him, trust me.

10. Because if she did it BEFORE, she'd get slammed as well
She could either give the speech before, after or on Super Tuesday. Which do you prefer.

And giving it the dat AFTER doesn't interfere with coverage of Super Tuesday. Super Tuesday coverage will occur on Wednesday. By giving her speech on Wednesday, Hillary will push her coverage into the next news cycle. If she gave the speech later in the week, she'd be accused of trying to steal the spotlight from the run-up to the March 9 primaries. And if she gave it the week after, she'd be trying to hog the attention from the next primary. And if she gave it at 3 o'clock on a Sunday morning, there would be some evil motive assumed there as well.

Everything is not a conspiracy. Hillary has every right to give a policy speech whenever she chooses.

11. probably because she is a US senator and has had this
speech scheduled for some time--I doubt it is to diminish your candidate.
