Obama's 17 year relationship with SLUMLORD REZKO
http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2008/01/24/worrying_about_obama/

Who's this slumlord? While running as a reformer, Obama has had a 17-year relationship with an indicted Chicago con man who's going on trial for fraud, extortion, and money laundering. ABC News found that Obama has been close to Antoin "Tony" Rezko, a major slumlord and wheeler-dealer who used minority set-asides and community groups as fronts to win government contracts.

As a state senator, Obama wrote letters to the city and state backing Rezko's successful bid to get $14 million in tax money to build senior citizen housing that wasn't in Obama's district.

ABC and the Chicago Sun-Times both found that Obama asked for and got Rezko's help in buying land neighboring Rezko's property for $300,000 below the asking price. When the deal became public, Obama said it was a mistake that he regrets. He may not be done regretting it.

The Sun-Times has learned that Obama is the unnamed political candidate in the federal indictment against Rezko. His US Senate campaign got $10,000 out of quarter-million-dollar scheme engineered by Rezko.

Obama's dealings with Rezko took place while it was well known that Rezko was under investigation by US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, who sent Scooter Libby to jail. Rezko goes on trial Feb. 25, three weeks after Feb. 5, when half of all the delegates will be chosen.

8. That article is glib. It doesn't get into the deep stuff
And even the harder articles seem to be reluctant to hit him too hard.

From going through a bunch of articles, it looks like at least one damning thing was
buying a house as Rezko simultaneously bought the lot next to it. Then a few months
later, Rezko sold part of the lot to Obama at a heavily discounted price.
Small, but very sneaky.

Troubling that Keith Olberman doesn't take a second from his clinton bashing to
bring this up. KO pats himself on the back as a great honest patriot, but he has
morphed into Matthews. I don't watch his show anymore.
Abrams is the only news guy on cable worth watching.

14. Ah, you prefer the facts only when clouded by lies and spin. Here:
Clinton shill Taylor Marsh has an extensive article on Obama and Rezko even though buried in it is this:

Mind you, I'm not at all saying Barack Obama did anything illegal, nor is anyone else. He absolutely did not. That's not the point at all.

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2008/01/by_frank_james_in_monday.html
"Obama has given to charities $85,000 in Rezko-linked campaign contributions, including $40,035 last weekend following a published report suggesting that Rezko funneled a $10,000 donation to Obama through a business associate."

...tells me there's a lot to this story or Kos, et al would be simply brushing this under the rug...instead they're not touching it at all because they know the potential damage.

heard of before. This Rezko problem is worse than I thought and will be a heavy weight for Obama. He needs to address this.

25. You mean his relationship with Rezko wasn't limited to "5 hours of legal work" as he claimed
during the last debate?

17 years vs. 5 hours. Hmmmm.....

Asking for and getting from Rezko a nice house for $300K under the asking price? Wasn't that similar to one of the things that sent "Duke" Cunningham to prison?

I'm sorry for all the Obama idealists here who get all hot and bothered every time they listen to one of his ethereal "hope" and "change" speeches. Maybe it's time all of you finally woke up and smelled the coffee - Barak is not the "dream" you're all wishing for.

He attacked Hillary and she unleashed this bomb in response. This bomb which will undoubtedly sink Obama's ship. Hopefully sooner than later so that he doesn't bring down our chances to take back the White House with it.

20. US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald has already stated that Obama did nothing wrong
As for the real estate deal, the home had been on the market for many months with an asking price of $2 million. Since you probably still are living with Mommy at home rent-free, you probably have no clue how multiple bids work in the real estate market.

There were two bids and the Obama bid was the best. As for the small tract of land 10 feet wide by some yards long, $100,000 was a fair price in that Chicago neighborhood.

Did Rezko and Obama know each other over a 17 year period. Yes. Does that mean that they were hanging out with each other all the time? Was Obama supposed to take care of Rezko's business when it comes to tenant issues?

I hate to stick a pin in the Clinton hot air balloon with the so-called Rezko connection. It has been fully vetted already.

23. who cares what Patrick says...RW has tons of ammo to twist and turn any way they want..PERCEPTION!
As Davis has become one of City Hall's favored developers in the last 10 years, he also has become a major political player. He has donated more than $400,000 to dozens of political campaign funds. His top beneficiaries include Daley, Blagojevich and Sen. Barack Obama, who worked for several years as an attorney in Davis' law firm.
Here's more on Obama's boss the Tony Rezko partner.Obama is tied in with some rather sleazy people. When Obama talks about a "new politics" you've really got to laugh. tons more...

28. Chicago media has vetted this story for years
If the Repugs want to bring up this issue and they are running McCain, he gets slammed with the Keating Five story. If it's Rudy, there's miles of scandals to slam him into the pavement. If it's Romney, there's his laying off hundreds of people and pocketing the money.

The Rezko story might be something the Clintons want to bring up (talk about scandals...), but it's a non-story. Otherwise, the Chicago media would have buried Obama in 2004. They tried and it fizzled.

35. How will Rezko be a non story when Obama is called to testify on the stand?
If you don't think it will happen, you're still dreaming that dream of Hope and Change..

yeah, Obama "hopes" these criminal proceedings will just melt away but they won't "change" the fact Obama is directly or indirectly involved. As said up thread, the Republicans will toast our chances with Obama within 24hrs of his receiving the Dem Nomination.

No Thanks!
