Screw The Primaries: Will Obama And Hillary Stand Up To Put Their Country Before Their Campaign?
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 01:59 PM by ihavenobias
I sure hope so. How much more would you like and respect either or both of them if they actually came back to the Senate to stand up to the Bush Administration (not to mention Harry Reid http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x87421 ) with regard to this awful plan to give the Telecom companies retroactive immunity?

Wouldn't it be amazing to see the two front-running Senators in this campaign (who are fighting to be the Leader of our country) actually show some *leadership* on a critical issue? I mean come on, even from a purely political standpoint, wouldn't leaving their campaigns for a day actually *help* them in the long run?

And no, I don't want to hear lame excuses about not having enough votes (or how a simple press release is the same thing), etc. That's complete and utter BS! True *leaders* would show up and rally people around them and GET enough votes. At the very least real leaders will *try* and not make excuses.

This new editorial over at HuffPo really pins down the issue with our Congress:

"..If we are to be kind and assume that the Democratic leadership is not deceitful and complicit, then we are left with the unfortunate alternative that they are hopelessly dense. How low does Bush's approval rating have to be before you realize it is to your political advantage to oppose him rather than to bend to his will?

How blind do you have to be to not see that helping Bush makes you look pathetically weak? I don't feel good speaking to our elected leaders this way. I would like to have some respect for these positions. But they make it impossible to respect them.

What's really sad is that they have no idea how much people would love them if they just fought back a little bit. They're too busy trying to get the Republicans, Fox News Channel and the Washington elite to love them. Turn around, your electorate is dying to support you.

Give them a chance and they would back you a 100%. But you make that impossible when you keep supporting the one man everyone else realizes is the least trustworthy person in the country -- George W. Bush."

3. A primary is a battle to represent a party...not the nation

4. "Stupid"?
That was totally unnecessary but I appreciate the insult.

And I completely disagree. A "general campaign issue"? The fact that our party won't stand up to the Republicans? If you ask me, that's an issue in EVERY sense of the word and it transcends any sort of campaign.

5. A primary is a battle for who will represent the party to the nation.
and I didn't think saying stupid was so bad. We use it against the Bushs all the time

9. Okay, so how about battling for party leadership in this way?
Like, get to Washington and fight the fights we need to be fighting? Get on a plane and get in there for the reallly important votes.

I have to agree with ihavenobias on this one. I consider this important in my choice for who I want as the candidate. Sorry.

Oh and by the way....saying 'stupid' IS bad when you're using it against your own people. Save it for the Bushes. 'nuff said.

7. Maybe try being a little respectful
Notice that despite you calling me "stupid" (for no *good* reason), I didn't resort to name calling. I just pointed out how and why I disagreed.

As for fighting back, that was the whole point of my post, asking if our supposed leaders would actually fight back.

Why be so offensive? I don't get it. Go ahead and disagree by all means, but....why be like that? I don't get you at all.
