..essentially, you're saying "I want the GOP to send the Supreme Court back 100 years"
It's a primary, and it's been rough, and both Hillary and Barack have said and done things they shouldn't have. That said, most everybody in this discussion needs to grow up. What Hillary and Barack are dishing out now is NOTHING (zip, zilch, nada) compared to the nastiness to come. We need to brace ourselves for a whole lot of ugly coming from a never ending parade of stupid.
If the John Paul Stevens makes it to 2009, the next President will most likely replace him. There is a reasonable chance the next Prez will also get to replace Scalia and Bader-Ginsburg. If the President is not named Clinton or Obama, this will almost certainly mean: Roe will be overturned, or so narrowed as to be useless; any remaining federal protection for those who practice non-mainstream sexual lifestyles will go away; state laws mandating that stores must carry the morning after pill will likely be overturned; the government's ability to use secret courts and secret wiretaps will likely remain unchecked; the Death Penalty will remain in tact in those states where it is allowed; rulings that we take for granted may be revisited, including Gideon (right to an attorney, even if you can't afford one), Miranda (having your rights read to you when arrested), Brown (desegregation of schools), Tinker (right of high school students to engage in non-disruptive political protest); the right of reporters to protect sources will likely vanish (it's about as good as gone now), making the free press a toothless tiger; mandatory school prayer will likely be revisited; states may be allowed to limit or outlaw the use of birth control.
It'll be good times with a SCOTUS having 7 members on the far right :scared:
Ralph Nader told America that they should vote for him because there was no essential difference between Gore and Bush. Ralph Nader was full of crap! There was a huge difference; I'm not saying Gore would not have made mistakes, but we would be a better nation if he had replaced Rehnquist and Day-O'Connor, and if he had been the one to review the intelligence on Iraq.
Be as pissed off at as much as you want right now; however, once we're done in Denver, put it behind you. We need to focus on not having President McCain, President Romney, or President Huckabee.
