Finally...I'm relieved that Mark Penn has again inserted himself into the Clinton-Obama brouhaha

Finally

01.25.08 -- 1:46PMBy Josh Marshall

I'm relieved that Mark Penn has again inserted himself into the Clinton-Obama brouhaha. Because after so much squabbling between two people both of whom I actually like, it's comforting to have a consummate bulls--t artist like Penn take the stage so I can pillory him with no misgivings or cognitive dissonance.

I'll say this, the real tragedy of Hillary's comeback win in New Hampshire is that it saved Mark Penn's job.

Penn:

Start with the hiring of chief campaign strategist, Mark Penn. He's CEO of a PR firm, Burson-Marsteller, that prepped the Blackwater CEO for his recent congressional testimony, is advising the giant industrial laundry corporation Cintas in fighting unionization, and whose website proudly heralded their union-busting expertise until it became a potential Clinton liability and they removed that section. B-M has historically represented everyone from the Argentine military junta and Philip Morris to Union Carbide after the 1984 Bhopal disaster.

Obama comes clean, but Hillary's sleaze machine thrives

1. Obama aides picked the wrong fight if they thought they could rough up Clinton without blowback

ABC's Sam Donaldson writes that Obama aides picked the wrong fight if they thought they could rough up Clinton without blowback. "What did Sen. Obama and his associates think was going to happen when they seized on Sen. Clinton's remark that it took a president -- Lyndon Johnson -- to bring Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'dream' to fruition and let it be known they thought that was discrediting Dr. King?" Donaldson writes.

"But what Obama's camp should understand is that they are up against the most accomplished and potent political machine of the present election cycle: The Clintons have been doing this for a long, long time. They know what works," Donaldson continues.

Josh refers to the Hillary win in NH as a tragedy - interesting unbiased comment
