You might be thinking of his yes votes to limit MFN or elements of it.

http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:EW1gu19P5KkJ:www.votesmart.org/voting_category.php%3Fcan_id%3D27110+Bernie+Sanders,+most+favored+nation,+china,+vote&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=7&gl=us&client=firefox-a

Vote to adopt a joint resolution that would deny an extension of China's normal trade relations status with the United States.

-------

Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.): There is a reason why the largest multinational corporations in this country are spending tens of millions of dollars to see this legislation passed, and that reason is they like doing business in China where they can pay people 10 cents an hour, 15 cents an hour, rather than paying the workers in this country a living wage. And there is another reason why the environmental community is opposed to this agreement, why the veterans community is opposed to this agreement, why religious organizations like the National Conference of Catholic Bishops are opposed to this agreement, and that is this agreement is bad for workers, it is bad for human rights, it is bad for the environment, and it is bad for national security. I would hope that the members of this Congress have the courage to stand up to the big money interests who are flooding Congress with contributions, with lobbying efforts, and with advertising, and do the right thing for the vast majority of the American people. Vote against this agreement.

But maybe not. I doubt he would been so vocal and filed simultaneous bills to kill it of he had voted yes. But stranger things have happened in the world of politics.

In any case, I'll say it again. Bernie for President!

49. Not necessarily
The devil is always in the details.

Soft money can refer to anything from Big Corporate Bribes to contributions from unions and issue advocacy groups like Move On....And Poison pills can always be inserted into such reforms, such as barring unbions from any political activity.

So whether or not banning such donations (or otherwise limiting outside resources for political parties or candidates) is a good thing is often a matter of interpretation.

I don't know the exact devils in these details concerning Bernie's votes. But I'd betcha, knowing Bernie, that his reasons for both votes were totally consistent with each other.

4. In his 34 years in the Senate
Pat Leahy has been remarkably consistent. He's fought for the same things for that entire time. And then of course, there's Bernie. Maybe we just have a better breed of politician here. Oh, and neither of them have ever taken advantage of their positions in gov't to benefit financially. As for their earmarks; admirable.

Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 02:46 PM by jackson_dem
I think out of respect to the deceased we should leave them out of this. This thread is more about the idiocy of crucifying Hillary and Edawrds, or anyone else, for changing positions by certain folks who pretend their guy never has.

Kucinich has as many flip flops as Edwards and Hillary. Even the guy so many would cite as the example of consistency is as inconsistent as those evil flip floppers Hillary and Edwards!
