31. I think the turnout will be high in November...
I just think people here assumed Kerry would be the nominee, and (sadly) didn't care about the props enough to vote.

Also, a LOT of people voted absentee. I did because my county only uses the new e-voting machines.

Lots of people here vote absentee in every election, even without the voting machine issue.

I predict that the turnout in Nov. WILL be very high. For the people wanting Bush out as well as (ugh) the Bush supporters.

However, a majority of people here just don't care enough to vote at all. And it's very sad.

28. When I showed up at my polling place at 7:45 PM
I was the only one there. There were two people going in when I was leaving. Both my husband and another friend said it was dead when they both went earlier in the day.

People must have assumed Kerry had it in the bag and maybe they just didn't care enough to go and vote on the props???

Geez, I hope 57 doesn't pass!!!!!

33. The props are passing, except
56.
California will be saddled with a $15billion bond measure that will cost about $45-60 billion with interest when it comes due. Prop 56 the only one I really had to think about was not passing, we are keeping our super majority for state budgets here. School bonds are passing all over the state, both local and the state initiative.

Cheers to the people of the San Joaquin Valley on NOT putting Chris Mathys on the ballot for the repug state seat. Mike Villines will be running against the Dem for the state seat and that is a better match up any day, no matter the result. Chris Mathys ran his campaign during the last few days on banning the gay marriage proposals. Mike Villines I think ran his campaign more on the lines of this: The economy is in trouble, Mathys is worried about homos; we are at war Mathys is worried about fags; the environment is hazardous to your health and Mathys is worried about gays. So the republicans voted in the republican Villines, not the republican homophobic Mathys. That choice, no matter if the Dem or repug wins, is better for the state then even the possibility of Mathys being in office.

http://vote2004.ss.ca.gov

This is the state sect. web site. It gives a lot of demographics on this race and previous races. You can go back and look at the impact of Ross Perot, or Ralph Nader on the California elections. You can go back and see how Barbara Boxer did last time she ran. You can do it county by county for the past decade. Good historical information on how CA voted. Example Dole won 33 counties to Clinton's 20. Clinton took over 50% of the total vote here, compared to Doles 36%. Perot whipped Nader's butt that time.

Currently Bush has more votes for him than Kerry picked up today in CA. I know that some will say the Dem vote is split out here. Well the repug vote is not and they had even less reason to show up, their man was a given for the nomination. So to all the Kerry supporters present and future: He needs to work his liberal New England butt off till he feels like his eyes are going to bleed. He did not do anything out here in CA, and Bush beat him in the polls today.

32. Update: With 67% in, Prop 55 squeaks ahead.
Prop 56 dead in the water, with at least half a million Democrats voting against it or ignoring it. After almost twenty years, the ghost of that cheapjack Howard Jarvis still haunts this state.
