39. JFK was a personal friend of Barry Goldwater
Kennedy and Goldwater discussed the 1964 campaign as one in which they would both fly in the same plane and give speeches to the same audience, contrasting themselves. Years later Goldwater said it would have been a grand idea that would have given the country a clean campaign that presented both points of view in a positive way.

Goldwater regretted that Kennedy did not live to see that day.

40. You don't know anything about JFK, do you? If you did, you'd know better than to post that
JFK was one of least partisan presidents we've had in our history. He pissed off a lot of Democrats by filling his cabinet with people regardless of party - and included many Republicans on his team.

I'd suggest you go back and read some history before posting such historically inaccurate tripe. But then I remembered who I'm talking to . . .

Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 09:02 PM by LibraLiz1973
Because there is NO JFK candidate. Seriously

On Edit: OF COURSE I don't mean she took quaalude's. What I am trying to say is that she isn't thinking clearly comparing Obama to Kennedy.

23. The endorsement is fine. Likening him to her father is ridiculous.
As far as I knew, JFK was a true Democrat who kicked ass and took names.
Obama is NOT anything like JFK.

41. Then you don't know much about JFK
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 09:11 PM by EffieBlack
He consistently worked across party lines and included many Republicans in his cabinet and administration.

And I think Caroline Kennedy is a much better judge of her father than you (or any of us) are and certainly can invoke his name legacy whenever and however she chooses.

49. You cannot compare working across party lines in 1960
to doing that today. In 1960, the Democratic Party was split into two camps: Southern Democrats and Yankees. My father was an extremely liberal Democrat. He was an avid supporter of FDR. When we moved to Alabama, he suddenly had a lot of Republican friends. We asked him about it and he answered: "The Republicans are the liberals here." So, JFK reached across party lines to people who were relatively liberal in the Republican Party. He ultimately took a fairly liberal stance on civil rights issues -- or at least appeared to be planning to do so.

So, reaching across party lines in the early '60s had a completely different meaning than it does today. Today, the Republican Party is backward. It is the party of regression instead of progress. It's hard to find Republicans with whom an honest Democrat can work although there are a few.

50. You're making a different argument
I was responding to posts that incorrectly claimed that JFK did not reach across party lines. That's just not true.

Now, if you want to argue that reaching across party lines is not feasible today, that's a different discussion. But it is false for anyone to claim that JFK did not do that.

24. I HAVE to say it
A couple of weeks ago, when someone posted a query as to whom we would like Obama to run with, Caroline Kennedy was my choice. I know that's not a realistic choice, but it would be a dream ticket. The truth of the matter is I so admire her.

Tonight the same question was asked, and I wanted to post the same response, but I did not. I am sure strategically there are better choices that would assist Obama in prevailing over the Republicans. But since he runs a candidacy based on the politics of hope, I too can dream of a Vice Presidential candidate named Caroline. After all, the song is ready!!!

But in that arena of the politics of hope, would not an Obama/Caroline ticket be the dream ticket?

This is huge for those of us able to remember the Kennedy "magic". I was only eight years old when John Kennedy was assassinated, but I admired the family tremendously for how they carried on in the aftermath!

Thank you Caroline, for speaking out!

45. JFK changed during his presidency, will Obama do the same or will he be a puppet for Brzezinski & Co?

Washington - The last living child of legendary US president John F Kennedy has endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in the Sunday edition of New York Times.

The endorsement by Caroline Kennedy, who has kept a low profile through the many family tragedies since her father's assassination in 1963, gives a huge boost to Obama, who clinched a blockbuster victory in the South Carolina primary Saturday in his bid for the centre-left party's nomination for the White House.

South Carolina Democrats handed him the first majority victory since primaries began earlier this month, with 54 per cent support based on a nearly complete vote count.

US presidential elections are on November 4.
