Clinton disgraced
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 09:53 AM by Onlooker
Obama won SC by a 2:1 margin, with a record turnout, and a respectable 25% of the white vote. Kerry got only 22% of the white vote in South Carolina against Bush!

What makes it even more amazing is that just a few weeks ago, Clinton led by 40% to 25%, so her numbers dropped by over a third and Obama's numbers more than doubled! What changed? The Clintons started playing the race card. Even after the election, Bill Clinton was quick to point out that Jesse Jackson also won SC, and today it's reported that Clinton strategist said Obama will now be seen as the black candidate. I liked Hillary Clinton, but her sleazy, mean-spirited campaign is a huge turnoff. What makes the Clintons think that Democrats want the kind of campaign that Republicans used with success? The Clinton strategy reminds us of our painful defeats at the hands of the corrupt Republican machine.

Obama is the least liberal of the candidates, but he is an idealist and he is running a very honorable campaign. He is trying to change the trajectory of politics that has been in place for the last 25 years. He is the face of change, and a lot of older Democrats are resisting that, thinking that he hasn't earned his dues. Well, it would be better if he had more experience, but if he had, he would have been more entrenched and not be such a great champion of change. I wish he was more liberal, that his health care plan was better, and that he would renounce homophobic preachers. But overall he is trying to lead the party in a new direction, a direction based on making our society fairer, less partisan, more peaceful, and so on. Given that a president has to appeal to broad swath of Americans, Obama's message is attractive and leaves him room to turn to the left should he get elected.

I never thought I would say this, but the Clintons disgust me right now. With their race-baiting and transparent call to seat the delegates of Florida and Michigan, the Clintons are proving the naysayers right, namely that they can't be trusted. They must, must, must change their ways, not only if they want a shot at winning, but if they want to help the Democrats and want to preserve their legacy. In the meantime, Barack Obama stands head and shoulders above them.

1. i wouldn't say he's the least liberal
I'd say he's the most liberal, but also the most pragmatic.
