I though Obama was about "the future"

Ted Kennedy is a relic from the 80s. Good Democrat but not an impressive endorsement.

Ted Kennedy has been for this country and those who need a champion. Lion of the Senate, that is what he is. Go, Ted, and continue to be a good and great man.

20. hey, obama got part of shrum on his team already with kerry,
This is a funny post and I thank you....

it is strange that over the last two week obama's folks in here were so critcial of those blacks that supported clinton that actually walked and talked alongside martin luther king. Called them relics of the past and other vile names...

but now I see this bastion of old timey, a relic of the past and back in the day liberalism is supporting obama......Yes this endorsement should at least get obama back to oh say 1986......sure it would have been good to have another kennedy endorsement for hrc. robert kennedy jr is on board with hrc.... but then again i doubt serious ted would be given the ok to speak......

ted is late to the dance as usual cause the united farm workers have laready endorsed hrc last week and we saw the huge support they gave hrc in nevada....

15. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THAT "relic"
When no one else would do it he sat in Bobby's chair in the Senate all night to ensure that the minimum wage would be raised. He got catastrophic health care for millions by working with senators on both sides of the aisle - your candidate would do well to aks him how he did that. In addition to being the lead sponsor on Kennedy-Hatch, he is one of the few US Senators who openly supports same-sex marriage - somethng which should appeal to you given your sexual preference.

And that's the tip of the iceberg.

If it is not an impressive endorsement, why did the Clinton's initiate a flurry of calls to try to prevent it? The joke is on you.

65. Bill HIMSELF tried to intervene (surprise, surprise) -- (more inside)
"The Clinton campaign launched a last-ditch effort over the last few days to stop Kennedy's move, orchestrating a flood of phone calls to Kennedy from sources ranging from union chiefs to his Massachusetts constituents."

"The former president also called Kennedy in a vain attempt to keep him out of the race, a source familiar with the conversation said."

"During his two terms in the White House, President Clinton made repeated overtures to the Kennedy family. So the senator’s rejection of his wife is at least as embarrassing as her 28-point loss in the South Carolina primary on Saturday."

"It's a fight not to nominate a sure loser. We're unified on that"...

so what you're actually saying is, whoever is running against YOUR candidate is already a sure loser? Do you have psychic abilities that enlighten you to this kind of information? If so, please do tell, otherwise, it just appears to be blind accusations at something you really know nothing about.

While I appreciate the loyalty to whomever you support, there comes a point when loyalty turns into fanaticism, which repeals those you might be trying to persuade, therefore, questioning your true motive. If you really want to help your candidate, try pulling from the positive stack of things you KNOW to be true, not hurling insults at the opponent. No one likes a sore loser. It looks immature.

Caroline Kennedy's endorsement didn't mean crap to me, but Ted Kennedy is a completely different story. I was edging toward Clinton, but this kind of endorsement MIGHT change things. I'm still not convinced of Obama's sincerity, readiness or electability. It's entirely likely that he could have fooled the ol' Liberal Lion himself...

75. Surprised this wasn't locked
When you call someone a "relic of the past," simply based on age, you are making it personal about biological age. That is horribly wrong and should be reprimanded here at DU. We don't put up with it in regards to sex, race, sexual orientation - and we sure shouldn't put up with it when it comes to age. What a disgrace.

81. I don't care who you support. Uncle Teddy deserves more respect than that
He is one of our elder statesmen.

I wouldn't dis someone like that if they supported Hillary.

88. Of course the OP has to trash him
They're anti-Obama. Kennedy endorsed Obama therefore must bash Kennedy.

Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 07:23 PM by Seabiscuit
You've heard them... such as:

(driving towards Chappaquiddick)

Mary Jo: I love you, Ted. Will you marry me?

Ted: We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
