2003: Bill Clinton asks for a third term
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/2946802.stm

<div class="excerpt">Former US President Bill Clinton has called for a change to the constitution's 22nd Amendment which prevents a person from being elected president more than twice.
"I think since people are living much longer... the 22nd Amendment should probably be modified to say two consecutive terms instead of two terms for a lifetime," he said.</div>

<div class="excerpt">"There may come a time when we elect a president at age 45 or 50, and then 20 years later the country comes up against the same kind of problems the president faced before," said Mr Clinton.</div>

At least now we know why Hillary is running.

4. Gasp! I never knew this before! /sarcasm
Here's a newsflash. They ALL want to be president. All the folks running for president - and their spouses - want to win the White House. Over and over. As often as possible.

7. The 22nd was the last good idea to come out of a Republican Congress
Okay, technically they were sniping at FDR's corpse, but still, in the age of the imperial presidency, two terms is about all the abuse democracy can take. Presidents are already far more powerful than what the Framers intended. Presidents effectively write their own budgets--subject only to a few quibbles from Congress. Presidents can start and carry on wars now without formal declarations or even the consent of Congress--even after Congresses say they want the wars to end.

I belong to the Big Dog Love'em Cult, but two terms is enough. The Founders believed in rotation in office. Honest government depends on all the lackeys and hangers from one administration being run out every few years and not coming back. It's the nature of government to become more powerful and more corrupt as the years in executive office pass. I worship at the Shrine of Clinton, but bringing any president back for a third term is a recipe for disaster and scandal.
