Caroline Kennedy does Very Powerful Ad for Obama
daughter goes all out in the Kennedy-Obama comparison here, with an ad that begins with a series of Kennedy images, fading into a series of images of Obama.

The campaign says the ad will air in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Boston, and on cable.

The Ad is at the link

37. He never said the comparisons were "bogus"...
Last night, he said he is uncomfortable comparing himself to JFK.

However, it appears that JFK's children, nephews and brothers have no problem
comparing Obama to JFK, and Obama has no problem with their assessment of himself.

Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 05:39 PM by rinsd
After he got called on it, he made the claim that he never claimed to be jfk.

Now he puts out an ads basically having JFK's kids call him JFK.

I could care less how they wish to characterize it, its his claim that he and by extension his campaign have nothing to do with that comparison.

I'm telling ya, the outright lies on this board are just amazing!

First off, Obama NEVER compared himself to JFK. EVER.

Hillary criticized Obama for making inspirational speeches, and accused him
of being pretty much an orator--while suggesting that she was the experienced one.

I actually have no problem with her arguing that point. I disagree with her,
but it's no big deal to have this discourse.

Obama shot back and said, "What's wrong with a good speech? Martin Luther
King and JFK made inspirational speeches!" I was there, in Iowa--at his victory
speech when Obama said that.

He never said, "I am JFK" or "I am like JFK". He was making the point that
there is nothing wrong with giving inspirational speeches--and many others
before him have done the same thing.

It was the Clintons who then turned around and screeched, "He's comparing
himself to MLK and JFK!!!"

Lies. Big, bold, steamy lies.

So typical of the Clintons--her surrogates and the baby shills on the blogs. You
twist what someone says. Then your opponent corrects the record. Then you call them
a liar for denying the original lie you said about them.

Unfrickinbelieveable.

http://www.barackoblogger.com/2007/09/jfk-advisor-sorenson-stumps-for-obama.html

Barack Obama is JFK heir, says Kennedy aide

By Toby Harnden in New York

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/10/12/wobama112.xml

But I love how his campaign can tout this, he can have commercials state this but his supporters will claim "well he never said it".

Funny because you seem to get all raged up about the Clinton and their parsing. Guess it was all bullshit.

Here's video introduction of Obama himself

http://www.webcastr.com/index.php?option=com_seyret&task=videodirectlink&id=735

WaPo coverage of the same event

Now, the Obama campaign is seizing on the comparison itself to rebut one of the main arguments against his candidacy, his rivals' charge that he lacks experience. At campaign stops yesterday in Chicago and Iowa, Obama was introduced by Ted Sorensen, the 79-year-old former Kennedy speechwriter, who went to great lengths to knock down the inexperience charge by invoking his former boss. In a packed hotel ballroom in Coralville, outside Iowa City, Sorensen spent several minutes on the podium retelling Kennedy's handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, "the most dangerous crisis in the history of mankind."

53. It is truly amazing and disgusting
(Some) People here make empty allegations alleging lies, misconduct, criminal acts by Obama and when well-meaning posters post refutations with documented evidence to the contrary, people just breeze just by them. And they keep posting their original allegation, as if the conversation never took place.

It used to be that posters here chronically complained about the misinformation spread by the MSM. That complaint was used as a reason for sticking to the news and information acquired on the Internet. But now websites host posters that are involved in that same technique, deliberately spreading misinformation. In that effort, they not only demean themselves, the website but their candidate as well. It's very demoralizing.

And why do these people who participate think we will join them at the end of the road for the sake of party unity? We still risk that same stink rubbing off on us if we stand with them as they continue to utilize these underhanded tactics in the general ....

Why the Kennedys Went for Obama
Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 By KAREN TUMULTY/WASHINGTON

Thousands had been lining up outside American University's Bender Auditorium in Washington, D.C., hours before Barack Obama's arrival Monday afternoon. The campaign had initally booked the arena for a rally, but the news that he would be getting the endorsements of three members of the Kennedy clan there had given it the aura of a historic event.

The scene that greeted the candidate backstage could have been a Kennedy family reunion. Ted's branch of the clan had gotten there first. The senator was there with his congressman son Patrick, Ted's wife Vicki, and Vicki's son Curran. Then Caroline arrived with her three teenagers. Teddy's sisters, Eunice Shriver and Jean Kennedy Smith, showed up too, along with an assortment of their children and grandchildren. Through the blue curtains, the crowd was thundering: "Yes. We. Can."

For a moment, Obama looked overwhelmed when he saw all of the Kennedys waiting for him. Then he gathered Caroline in a big hug. "Thank you so much," he whispered. "I'm so excited."

84. It's A Powerful But Horrifying Ad
I am stunned and disappointed that Caroline chose or agreed to use comparisons to her father in her endorsement of Obama.

She has always been so circumspect and tasteful as an adult; I thought she would be the LAST person in the universe to whore out his image that way.

For Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg to endorse Obama, yes; for JFK's daughter to say Obama represents Camelot redux is an ATROCITY.

85. I am thinking maybe you be drinking.
Wow that some hatred you have unleashed. A little objectivity might be in order.
She is an adult of sound mind and is able to choose whom she likes.

Obviously whether you can handle it or not she has been dramatically moved by Obama.

May of us have.

You don't get the difference between a political endorsement and a moral benediction.

92. Watch it that stuff is dangerous.
Owl call it what you will. You know it is powerful.

She is the one who calls it an endorsement. And it is exceptional for her to make an endorsement
let alone one that alludes to the qualities of her father.

You can call it what you want. It clearly hit a nerve for you.

Me, I am in gratitude.

86. She takes her fathers image and reputation and protects it more than any
other person on the face of this earth.

She did not make a hasty or rash decision to do this. It has been under consideration for months.

This is the first time she has ever endorsed a candidate and compared him to JFK.

It is the first time Caroline has ever asked this country for anything.

Your derogatory and insulting remarks towards her say a lot about you and NOTHING about Caroline.

89. That's Partly Why I'm So Stunned
I would be just as offended had she endorsed Edwards or Clinton and said the same about him/her, although it's a little more awkward in presentation to make it jump the gender divide.

You don't get it, either. I suppose if anyone wants to turn her dad's image into a commercial property or political resource, she has the filial and hereditary authority to do so; I don't challenge that. That she CHOSE to use it in this manner-mystifies me. It is totally unlike her.

And by the way, this country doesn't "owe" Ms. Schlossberg anything.

88. Have you caught any of Obama's speeches yet?
He can connect and that's what a President needs to do. He's also got good policies and isn't a wh*re for the MIC.
