We should be discussing the bad news tonight...
...and that is John McCain's win.

No matter who your candidate is, I believe that McCain is the strongest opponent for our party. Though many hard core, right wing republicans are coming out right now and feel tepid about him because he is on the liberal end of the spectrum, most of them will vote for him in the GE. Let's face it..it is unlikely that the right wingers will come out for Obama or Clinton....

That being said, the primary run has been pretty nasty...There are plenty of Obama folks who say they'll vote republican before voting for Clinton...and plenty of Clinton folks who say they won't vote for Obama. McCain has an appeal to moderate independents...

And that is the real news for today that we should be contemplating.

1. People here can't contemplate a question like that
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 09:25 PM by Harvey Korman
It just devolves into the same cheerleading on each side, except the frame is "your candidate can't beat him because..."

3. McCain is the strongest Repub candidate
But he's also the one with the most chance of saying something extremely stupid, or blowing up at somebody.

4. His position on Iraq needs to be pounded, repeatedly
People in this country do NOT want to be in Iraq for 100 more years. It's ludicrous.

6. I was an exaggeration, and I bet HC will keep the troops there just as long
as him.

5. Given the great disdain many feel for HC he would have to say
something really bad to lose against her.

7. On the positive side there will be less excitement and energy from
the GOP ground troops like Fundies. And our side's excitement should remain high. so there's that.

11. I'm glad I support Edwards
He stands the greatest chance of beating McCain than Obama or Clinton.

If you think the primary has been brutal so far, wait until we get to the GE. Edwards is the only candidate.

12. hillary
I would vote for Hillary in a heartbeat over McCain, but I have a sinking feeling she would be the Gay Marriage inititiave of the 2008 elections.
