:hide: If people would be truthful, it could be interesting, at least for me.

Life and experiences change your perceptions. I'd love to know what's going on here.

3. I can only imagine
how often someone would be dismissed and talked down to because of their age. It already happens frequently.

We would also see that maturity is often not a product of age.

8. That was my point really; 'maturity isn't a product of age', but that's also
why it would be interesting. DUers are less than truthful at times, from my learned experience in GD/P, so would they fess up to their age? Also, all the newbies that abound, are they serious or will they 'be gone' by November if not before.?

And I am mid-50s and quite a bit foggy.

Hope all is well.

30. Age sometimes helps to understand the whys or hows of someone's posts...
it also helps identify the generations, all of whom have different ideas on how the world turns.

From the idealistic 18 year olds who know that they are immortal to the older folk who are just waiting around for the next great adventure to happen, it is a cornicopia of time capsules on a board like this.

40. But the inevitable patronizing and condescension is already evident
Botice that you dismiss those of other generations as naive idiots, and lionize your own as well adjusted and resourceful. I know 18 year olds who are far from idealistic and very much aware of mortality, and can provide very useful and intelligent opinions. I know 70 somethings who are limited, parochial and anachronistic, and rather than waiting for the next big adventure are merely biding time as best they can in a very narrow worldview.

Yes I know the way you put it too - seen it that way as well and everywhere in between. Generational stereotyping is stereotyping nonetheless, and it's a VERY short step from that to prejudice and bigotry.

37. 80 remember the results of three republican : Harding, Coolidge & Hoover
I remember what the three did to the U.S

Harding with policies much like George Bush, at a time when productivity was growing fast , encouraged the corporations to take most of the of the monies from the hard work of the working class. The productive workers in the United States were making such low salaries that they couldn't aford to buy what they needed, the very products they were making, the upper class already had two of every thing thus the Great Depression, however we were fortunate in getting FDR a democrat following three republican administration, our army was in shambles, it took FDR and the Americn women going to work to help get this nation back on it feet.Army had to be rebuilt in order to enter the war to stop Hitler.. Our women rose up tood jobs while our men were fighting, the nation pulled togeather under FDR other wise we might be speaking German.

39. No. We already have stupid reasons to discredit the opinions of others
Not a day goes by that I don't see some snide condescending asshole dismiss someone else because they have been on this site less time and posted fewer messages, as if political acumen and intellect were dependent on how much time or inclination somebody has to seek out one specific site. I don't want to see the same crap about age, as if being 50 automatically made you more insightful and perceptive than being 30.

Not personal angst either - I'm in the middle of teh pack on both counts. I just prefer to evaluate an opinion on its own merits, not biased by preconceptions of how dumb younger people or newer DUers are. And whether you personally would do that, you have surely seen enough to know that would most definitely be the overwhelming response.
