Some very interesting exit poll data from FL
OK Now I want to preface this by saying this is nort about last night's reults. And it is not about subtle digs at the victory. I fo however want to point out something that is significant about the age spread as compared to the other races to date. It seems to me that we may well be in great shape for FLorida once the General Election comes along because of who did n not show up at the polls.

Look at these numbers.

18-29 30-44 45-64 65+ | 18-44 45+
IA 22 18 38 22 | 40 60
NH 18 26 43 13 | 44 56
NV 13 19 32 36 | 32 68
SC 14 26 34 26 | 40 60

MI 17 26 32 26 | 43 58
FL 9 18 33 39 | 27 72

Now Florida has an older population to be sure. But the younger voters did not show up at anything close to what they has in the previous elections. By about 50%.

6. What it also suggest is that if Obama gets out the younger vote
He can be very competitive on Super Tuesday and in the general election across the country....particulary against McCain.

7. This is one of the reasons I didn't turn in my "delegation" info...
Hillary is trying to seat them, and I didn't want to be there and somehow count for her.. she's a liar.. I'm not too thrilled with Obama's "national" ad either.. It would have been a bit diff. if they had campaigned and if the vote was supposed to count.. I did go for Edwards because I felt it was important to put my hat in for him, even though it didn't count... A lot of progressives did it for that reason...

Another reason older folks showed up is because of the property tax ammendment.. that is important to older people who own realestate.. So, if you were a dem, you still had the option of picking a Pres. candidate.. but that was the reason for the big older turnout.. Younger people predominately rent, and didn't have a huge reason to show up to vote.

8. That's a contemptuously foolish thing to say.
Ageism is good, racism is bad, I take it? Unless you also like racism?

10. Actually there were some important ballot issues to show up for...
Everyone should've been there, just for those.

15. Not counting local ballot issues...
Where I'm from there was an important school issue ~ older voters go to the polls for things like that.

2. Perhaps if it counted it would actually be worth looking at.

3. Well, I voted 2 weeks ago, and I'd be considered a younger voter.
Also, I don't know where they have those exit polls placed at.. I've never seen one at my precint ever... So, I think those exit polls are biased..

5. Not really. You're 41
The group that really didn't show up is the 18-29.

11. Obama brings out the younger voters and he didn't campaign
in Florida. If he had given speeches at some of the colleges and universities it would have made a difference.

16. Younger voters should have followed their elders and voted anyway.....
...to show solidarity for their candidates. Perception is everything in politics. But hey, they are young. They will learn.

17. From the many threads here at DU,
I suspect that the younger voters will not show up in the general election if Obama is not the nominee as well.
