In case any of you idiots who think Edwards dropped out because
he made a deal with either Clinton or Obama, have forgotten, Elizabeth is living with a serious disease. I don't know if he'll endorse either of the remaining candidates- that's his decision, and if he does, I'll respect it whether it goes to my candidate or Clinton.

1. Well Cali, I can't battle with you any more on the John Edwards threads. Hope you

know a lot of it was in jest and trying to get some points across. By the way you are right on Edwards here as well. Kind of sad about this because his heart really was in the right place and I hope there is somewhere for him because he has a lot of good to give as well as his wife does who as you mentioned is battling a serious disease. So now, onward Obama. Have a good day.

3. That's what I was thinking.
There are possibly underlying events that we don't know and won't know about, and I hope no one is second-guessing their decision.

I wish the best for the family, regardless. I can't say I'll "respect" an endorsement of Clinton - my response will be more like "WTF?" but it is certainly John Edwards' decision to make, whether I agree with it or not.

4. politicians making deals . . . unheard of . . . no, really
only an IDIOT would ask if there was a political deal made to get Edwards to drop out before Super Tuesday . . . must be Elizabeth . . . no, really

Elizabeth Edwards set to return to campaign
Cancer not the cause of break, staffers say

"She's doing fantastic. There's been absolutely no change to her diagnosis or prognosis," said deputy campaign manager Jonathan Prince, during a conference call with reporters this week. "She's completely asymptomatic."

5. would it be such a big issue if there was a deal?
seems like a normal thing that happens sometimes in campaigns.

8. well we don't know if there was a deal
let alone the details.

The OP seems to think the very thought of the deal is unthninkable. (I think)

7. I will be an idiot,
and say that the primary factor in John Edwards's dropping out now is to advance the causes that he believes are most important. It is not because of a "deal," per say, but rather from an understanding he has reached .... and that understanding was reinforced by positive communications with one of the other candidates.

10. Well, if he did make a deal, I certainly hope it's with Barack.

12. not trying to be a smartass here, just asking what I think is a legitimate question...
IF he reached an "understanding" by "positive communications with one of the other candidates", then wouldn't he endorse said candidate? If not, why not?

13. Good question.
I think he might. The question would be one of timing. He might do so soon, or he might do so later. But I assume that John Edwards's influence is going to be felt as the primary campaign continues, and at the convention and beyond.

17. You might be right.
He may simply fade away, and not be involved in the rest of the primary contest. I don't think that will be the case, though. But it could be.

16. He hasn't ruled it out, which means he's almost certainly going to.
He's trying to build tension and buzz first. If he just endorsed out of the blue, it would seem bizarre and confusing. By waiting and leaving us to speculate, he's making it more desirable.

18. Apparently it's true Cali..
he asked them to make poverty a central issue in their campaigns. I suspect he will sit back and see if one or both of them follows through, then endorse or not endorse accordingly.
