Jimmy Carter: Obama will be a healing factor in the animosity that now exists...
Jimmy Carter says he's not formally endorsing any candidate, but in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the former president lavished praise on Barack Obama, calling his campaign "extraordinary"

"Obama's campaign has been extraordinary and titillating for me and my family," Carter told the newspaper in an interview published in its Wednesday edition. According to the paper, Carter was particularly praiseworthy of the Illinois senator's rhetorical skills, comparing them to those of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Carter also said Obama "will be almost automatically a healing factor in the animosity now that exists, that relates to our country and its government."

Putting aside all the political nuances, and simply looking at symbols - an Obama presidency would tell the world that America "gets it" and wants to shift direction away from an arrogant and war mongering policy. McCain represents the past and winning minds through a policy of fear - he has been in bed with Shrub's illegal acts of aggression from day 1.

Obama, even as a compromise candidate for many of us - would represent a radically new direction. And I really do believe, as Jummy Carter said - that an Obama presidency would begin to heal the rifts between us and the rest of the world; rifts created by those war mongering bastards on The Hill.

We need Obama and I hope with each passing day, folks feel a greater sense of confidence that indeed, Obama can prevail this November!

peace~:)

2. Thats what the Democratic Party believed when they
selected Carter.

4 short years later, we had Reagan.

6. Not me. And Carter is well known for disliking Bill.
I am actually surprised he is not endorsing Obama.
This means actually that either he likes Hillary ok or he actually dislikes Obama.

His comment does not make any sense. I think 2008 primary became very nasty for 2 reasons.

1. Internet based fights
2. Two historic candidates, both gender and racial politics are fair game, like it or not.

27. Wow.
> I am actually surprised he is not endorsing Obama.

I'm not. I don't recall him ever endorsing during the primaries. (an ex-President having too much influence in relation to others)

> This means actually that either he likes Hillary ok or he actually dislikes Obama.

Wow. That's a leap. There are a multitude of reasons why he wouldn't endorse *anyone*.

> I think 2008 primary became very nasty for 2 reasons.
> 1. Internet based fights

Internet fights only affect those fighting on the Internet.

> 2. Two historic candidates, both gender and racial politics are fair game, like it or not.

Just like Valerie Plame was fair game. And that's a difference; not everything is fair game. It's called ethics. And one campaign has demonstrated a lack thereof.

7. Right on! But Feb 5th comes before November
Edwards is a good man... it is unfortunate to see him go, but...

Obama = LANDSLIDE - if he gets the nomination....We need to watch out tho - War voting Billary is still INCREDIBLY POWERFUL. We need all hands working for Feb 5th, or Billary will still get the nomination.

Edwards can be effective as the "Al Gore of Poverty"

Billary Clinton was DISGUSTING in the way he/she (they are one man/woman sandwich) race-baited people before SC - appealing to the lowest form of Bigotry and Fear - trying to "tarnish" Obama as the "black candidate" - then pander and pay old friend black ministers to "get out their flocks" -- well the flocks sure got out - and they put Billary in her/his place!!!

The BILLARY MACHINE - is the past. and represents all the worst of politics.

I'm a white 39 year old and MY 73 YEAR OLD MOTHER AND I - who loved Kucinich - BOTH LOVE OBAMA.

Obama is not some compromise - he is quite simply the greatest candidate for president in My LIFETIME - and probably 3rd best in my Mom's lifetime.

We should all be incredibly proud of Obama - he makes us proud to be Americans again!

9. Thanks and a suggestion...
Yes sloppyjoe25s - we need as many hands on deck as possible come 2/5! I also appreciate your optimism (((( Obama landslide)))) that would rock!

As a newb here, your enthusiasm and pro-Obama posts will be even better received if you leave out the anti-Billary stuff. Believe me, it has all been said before X 10000. Though I agree with your observations, I find that refraining from the mudslinging gets the message across better. Take it or leave it advice...

We can't afford a Hillary or McCain victory this fall - it's all about an Obama victory and doing all we can to achieve that.

Welcome to DU!!!! :hi:

15. I luv ya, Jimmy, but I'm afraid you're wrong.
How is Obama going to be a healer, when he and (particularly) his minions are so divisive? You've got McClurkin (I guess that's where that "Christians for Obama" thing comes from, huh), the disregard for the baby boomers (we need to "get over it," whatever "it" is), the disingenuous race card -- yeah, Obama's a real healer.

25. He was a visionary (back in his tenure) regarding peace...
In fact, too peaceful to get elected to a second term --- sadly.

Great that he feels Obama would also inspire the same.
