To fellow John Edwards supporters....
I'm an old veteran of internet message boards and have experienced much nastiness including being stalked and because of past experiences I seldom share my heart. I'm often sarcastic and snarky, but right now I will share my heart.

John Edwards set before us a challenge. The challenge of something far greater than supporting any one candidate or being wrapped up in an election. Our challenge is to embrace a cause. We are challenged to reach out and support the poor, the sick, the defeated, the hungry. Will we embrace the CAUSE as much as we embraced John Edwards?

If his candidacy did not inspire us to go out and further the cause and do the work that needs to be done, THEN and only then will he have lost and so will we.

3. step 1, hold and improve congress
step 2, don't vote for Hillery or Obama in the general election,
if we don't punish the corporate wing of the party, the rest will never learn.

this should be obvious now. don't support the losers again, like we did with Kerry.
this time let them fall on their own. otherwise they will never figure out that they are in an endless cycle of traps.

48. I must say I am tempted
After all the worst part about this is that it abandons populism to the Republicans which puts us in big trouble if the Re-thug-niks latch onto Huckabee or maybe McCain (if he manages to resussurect his 'outsider' image).

5. Amen! It's the message NOT the messenger
And the message is exactly why John Edwards was not given his due in MSM.
I appreciate that Edwards was willing to stand up and say what needs saying. But the truth is, meaningful change will come from the grassroots or it will not come at all.
In 2004, a group of Deaniacs (I was a DK supporter) and others undertook a grassroots effort to bring change to the local and state Dem party. We were very successful, changing the make up of the county Dem exec committee and landing a few folks on the State Exec. Comm.
It can be done. Start locally. If your precinct doesn't have a captain, YOU take it on!

8. I haven't decided for sure....
but I think I will start volunteering at the local homeless shelter. I wouldn't be very good at building houses or I would volunteer for Habitat for humanity.

And any money I would have donated to the candidate I will support from here on out will go to the poor. Clinton and Obama have more money than God. ;-)

I can only hope that he will have an influential post in the dem nominee`s cabinet. It`s going to take awhile to get over this. I only hope that I can endorse the candidate that JE endorses.

it's about those who can't feed their children tonight, and those like the Katrina victims who have no roof over their heads. Those are the people he wants us to reach out to.

all the other candidates are talking about *some* of his stuff.

I'm stunned, heartbroken, I thought, maybe, just this once...

No one speaks for me, not even close...but life does go on.

I will support whichever the others pick, but DANG, I wanted him in the WH.

Now, who do I vote for on Tuesday?

Maybe he could be AG, and get the corporations out of our lives, THAT I could get behind.

For the first time when he spoke John Edwards seemed shaken. I think this was a very very hard thing for him to do and I so appreciate him not endorsing anyone today. He gave us time to feel what we feel without pushing someone else down our throats. He's a class act.

I can't tell you who to vote for, I just know who I will vote for on February 12.

22. Thank YOU BlackVelvet.
It was so refreshing to hear a viable candidate talk about the issues that matter to every day people, wasn't it? I think that Edwards has done good work by inserting the "people" into the discussion in Washington once again. His message was practical and full of hope at the same time. I don't expect his voice will be quelled just yet. ;)

32. The problem is he provided us a means to deliver on these causes...
That's why many of us were behind him. It wasn't so much a personal endorsement of Edwards (though I'd grown more respectful for him over time), it was that he potentially could deliver a voice for us, even if he wasn't a winner through negotiating a brokered convention outcome that would deliver on these challenges. Now with him out of this race, the ability to concretely deliver on the challenge of these issues is lost. You can say its now up to each and every one of us to work for this cause in our own local areas, but frankly many of us are now out of money, and out of time and energy to keep beating our heads against the wall without some useful means to leverage our efforts with to deliver some real change.

I still wonder if I'm even going to have a job a few weeks from now with our company just yesterday announcing plans to scale back its workforce. I frankly can't prioritize trying to help a party that has demonstrated LITTLE interest in prioritizing helping us!

Sorry, but I'm very close to switching to being an independent again!

35. I'm truly sorry for all your troubles....
I know how hard the job issues are as I've been unemployed for 15 months.

Please, take time to regain your equilibrium and take care of yourself first. Once you've recharged and things have settled down in your life I hope you will rethink this and find a way to support the cause of eradicating poverty and bringing about economic equality.

I think we can make a difference and I believe we win if we take up the cause we believed in with John Edwards.

40. My job I don't think is immediately threateend...
I've felt worse in other layoffs I've seen happen, but nevertheless, with the way the Democrats prioritize us (or DON'T prioritize us that is!) I have a very hard time doing much to help them any more! They need to understand that when the core of their party base gets pushed more and more into "survival mode" in terms of time, money, and patience, that they are going to LOSE voters!

Unless the people in charge of the Democratic Party have higher priorities to serve their corporate cronies over their party's success. IF that is the case, then they are doing a fine job for THEMSELVES, but not for us, and reducing our turnout and activist support may in fact be a part of their plan!

I refuse to be a "battered spouse" any more!

Obama, where's "the beef" of your "hope"!???

41. But the problem, as I see it, is
the independents aren't really going to put us high on their list either. It's only in response to the noise we make that we get anything done. I feel I can get the attention quicker with a Democrat cause heaven's knows the republicans don't care about anything but corporations.

Something real. Not about him or a political party, but about our society. I'll pick myself up, dust myself off and get to work.

I always said that I felt by supporting Edwards and the causes he talked about, we won, even a little bit. And I guess this is the heart of it, what that particular victory really is. It's getting the work done.

Still breaks my heart today, though.

42. I hope I don't meet you in the bread line.....
what do you think would be the biggest help to you financially right now? Is it just a matter of a good job or are there other issues like a home mortgage loan gone wild?

I ask not to be nosy but to offer any solutions or partial solutions I might be able to find.

I was really worried about us when I got a notice that our self paid health insurance was going up to $747 a month with a $5,000 deductible per person. I called my homeowners insurance company and they gave me the name of a man who could help me with new insurance. He lowered our bill, WITH BETTER COVERAGE, to $367 a month. My husband is a good bit older than I am and will go on Medicare in July and our coverage will cost even less. Sometimes there IS someone who can help if we know where to look.

I wish you all the best, and I hope for you and all of us stuck in bad financial places that whomever the new president is we will see some financial relief coming our way.

I started to tell you my life story, all 46 years of it (ha ha), but decided not to. We will manage somehow. If not then we will manage with whatever comes our way.

I am just so sad with what is happening to this country and I see the populist movement being chopped off at the arm every time it struggles to reach out and fix things. Americans are so hypnotized and accept a lie that they believe is democracy.

I pray things get better soon for the world.

Peace
