Victory is not out of reach. Get back into the race as a champion for Impeachment!!

The tragic failure of leadership on impeachment to date presents John Edwards with an incredible opportunity to renew and revitalize his campaign by following the example set by George McGovern, who has "belatedly and painfully concluded that the only honorable course for me is to urge the impeachment of the president and the vice president."

There is nothing to stop him from getting back into the race.
The realization that impeachment is a moral imperative would compel a re-evaluation of his decision to withdraw. Getting back into the race would put him in a unique position to become a truly effective champion for impeachment. (And bucking the impeachophobic establishment is certainly easier if they've already withdrawn their support.)

To remain out of the race after coming out for impeachment would deny his fellow Americans the opportunity to use our votes to demand action and declare their commitment to preserving the People's Government and the Constitution.

Past opposition to impeachment is not a barrier. Americans embrace the "sinner" who sees the light. (And the "reformed" often garner more attention and respect than those who take the right course from the start.)

Electing a Democratic President can't "fix things."
There is no "restoring" of that which should never be lost. When a criminal steals, we don't "restore" the law against theft. We enforce it. We charged Congress with duty "police" officials in the executive and judiciary. Impeachment is the means to stop violations by removing the violators from power. Failure to challenge bushchenyism now allows it to flourish. Even if Democrats would otherwise win the next election, it is ONLY by impeachment that the scope of damage can be exposed. Without it, they are left to regroup and reemerge.

There is No Downside.
The truth is that, contrary to the conventional "wisdom" of the DC establishment, there is no downside to defending the Constitution by demanding impeachment. There is NO "backlash beast" waiting to strike. And the upside potential is enormous. With polls showing 70% of the nation in agreement that this regime has abused the powers of office (and with many of the remaining simply lying to the pollsters), impeachment could well be the only way back to "bipartisan" or "unified" governing.

Only impeachment matches the words with the deeds.
By demanding impeachment Edwards would broaden his appeal by demonstrating moral clarity and guts and confirm his place as a principled outsider willing to take on the Washington establishment.

As long as John Edwards holds the position that impeachment can't, won't, or shouldn't happen, he is trapped in this beltway moral contradiction and therefore his message rings false. When he tells the truth and accuses Bush and Cheney in clear and simple terms, and then attempts to justify his opposition to impeachment, he sounds just like any other unprincipled and fear-ridden beltway "strategerist" -- the same corporate/insider pols that his campaign tries to set him up in opposition to.

1. Yeah, that "I'm back in again" strategy works so well. Just ask Gary Hart.
I do hope Edwards finds a way to influence politics. It's just not going to be as a presidential candidate.

3. There is no downside.
By sticking it out and using the campaign as a vehicle from which to champion impeachment, he would be giving the the nation the reatest gift he possibly could.

At a minimum, he would continue to gather delegates; he would be in the remaining Democratic debates; and he would have a real shot at putting impeachment "on the table" for voters, if not for the impeachophobes in Congress.

Sure, he could be dismissed and silenced by the powers that be, but that is no worse than his current status.

And who knows? He could completely transform the dynamics of the race by calling on Obama and Clinton to answer questions such as: Does the Office of the President have absolute and unlimited "unitary" power, as Bush and Cheney claim, or not? Which is the more damaging to the American People -- a guy that attempts to board a plane with a makeshift shoe bomb or a regime that terrorizes a nation into unnecessary war with threats of "mushroom clouds"? What are you (other candidate) willing to DO about these abuses of office?

Who knows? He could tap into the anger at Bush that is seething across the political spectrum. (Ron Paul is too far off the reservation for most anti-fascists; nevertheless, he tapped into a 10 million dollar motherlode when he tapped the "angry white male" vote by pointin the finger, accusing Bush and Cheney of their crimes and calling for their impeachment.

The anger is out there just waiting for a viable candidate to tap it. And Edwards remains a viable candidate. He could win some key states with a shift of 5 or 10% from Obama and/or Clinton.

A majority of Americans "would love" to see Bush impeached and removed. (Even the impeachophobes in Congress tell us this.) But too many have been silenced by the relentless efforts by the DC establishment to banish impeachment from the realm of possibility. (Why call for something "everybody knows" is impossible?) Too many have become resigned to the mistaken belief that there is no recourse but to tolerate the intolerable, and watch as the DC establishment allows Bush and Cheney the pretense of an honorable exit on January 20th, 2009.

John Edwards has an opportunity to remind the silenced that they DO the power -- and the moral obligation -- to do what they can to make impeachment a reality. He has a big megaphone. Even those who have written him off as a contender view him as a potential "kingmaker." He has earned the respect of Americans across the nation. He has the power and the platform necessary to reach the silenced and put impeachment front and center. And that could potentially transform the public's anger and resignation into a surge of hope and action that could not only make impeachment a reality; it could carry him into the White House.
