Bush Latte: Obama's rightward slide continues with Harry and Louise style fake health care plan
........Fri, 2008-02-01 18:37.

Krugman writes today:

The Obama campaign sends out an ugly mailer. Sorry, but this is just destructive — like the Obama plan, the Clinton plan offers subsidies to lower-income families. And BO himself has conceded that he might have to penalize people who don’t buy insurance until they need care. So this is just poisoning the well for health care reform. The politics of hope, indeed.

Update: Ezra Klein adds a screenshot of the original Harry and Louise ad — they’ve obviously deliberately copied it. Just to remind everyone, Harry and Louise were the center of the vile smear campaign the insurance lobby waged against health care reform in 1993 — and this time a Democratic candidate is doing the smearing for them.

Ezra— who is no Obama hater—summarizes how dishonest and manipulative America’s favorite baritone really is:

The Obama campaign kept hairstyles and barely even changed their clothing — which is really quite unfair to Harry and Louise, who probably let go of the plaid years back. What’s worse is that the argument they’re making is applicable to any kind of universal health care arrangement, including the arrangements Obama himself will eventually have to adopt.

Lovely. But not unexpected, eh?

At least by the alert readers of Corrente................

1. This is one of the worst things that the Obama campaign could have done.
I'm appalled. This is so destructive.

14. My thought exactly
Even at the debate, OB fumbled while answering questions raised about Health Care. Also, didn't like his remarks about the "freeze" on mortages. Why would he be against it. Sounds like something Bush would say.

3. Clintons lying again
Her plan subsidies tax credits, those were her exact words in the debate. We have no idea how much her plan is going to cost and NOBODY is going to agree to be mandated to pay for something when they don't know the cost.

This is Hillary doing the same thing she did before, shoving her plan at people without giving them any input or listening to their needs. It's the exact thing Obama has been criticizing.

And a couple sitting at a kitchen table - omg, that's never been in political ads every single year. :eyes:

6. How desperate the Clintons have become...it's just embarrassing
If Bill could have stayed to the side, everybody would have been left with the romanticized version of his term in office. Instead, he came out and reminded us all of how he had no coat-tails to pull Gore into the office behind him. To the point that a moron from TX beat his VP for the office.

13. I expected to be arguing against Clinton policy
I was as shocked as anybody when they started telling lies when Iowa started slipping away from them. Who knew. I didn't. I do now.

8. You need to play the Clinton's own game if you want to win the nomination
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 01:42 AM by NJSecularist
You have to play dirty politics. Other than the GOP, the Clintons do it the best. The Clinton's brought it down to that level, the lowest common demoninator.

9. CNBC 's Kudlow's show endorsed Obama as a "free market capitalist" in contrast to evil Hill's desire
to regulate corporations and do something about the fraud in the loans that are now resetting and tossing folks out of their homes.
