folk tales of course, but here's one right here in that arena. Look closely and you can see the orange elf dust on the speaker next to him.

And here's how you KNOW it's a real elf: the members of the audience are pretending to listen to Sen. Obama and pretending that they don't SEE the elf.

Hah! Each of them is afraid to say to the person at their side, "Hey, look, I'll be damned -- it's an elf!" for fear of scorn, marginalization, and institutionalization.
