Lieberman calls for unity in foreign policy
The "staggering prospect" of civil war in Iraq demands that Democrats and Republicans unite on matters of foreign policy, despite the upcoming presidential election, U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, D-Conn., said Thursday.

<snip>

"We must recapture the spirit of bipartisanship and national purpose we achieved following the Sept. 11 attacks to do so. It is that important," Lieberman said, comparing the war on terror to the Cold War, which ended with the fall of global Communism.

"The best of our elected officials no longer saw each other as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans, fighting a common enemy. Our times demand from us that same spirit of surpassing bipartisanship in the war against terrorism. For Democrats, that does not mean that all debate about the war must stop," but, Lieberman said, "doing only that is not acceptable anymore."

Neither Bush’s nor Kerry’s campaigns responded to requests for comment on Lieberman’s speech.

1. This fucking guy. I thought he went away.
Calling for "unity" now is crap. He can make a specific proposal, but calling for unity now without anything behind it is a Zellish move.

3. Define 'common enemy' Joe.
Once you do that, then we can discuss whether we agree and if so, what the right foreign policy is.

7. Joe should chill. That's already happened. His dream is real

and may the screams of the children resound in his ears until he is dead of old age in his cell at the Hague along with most of his colleagues and the entire bush and sharon regimes.

15. How can anyone brush aside the screams of those children?
The screams of their mothers? Fathers? After the bombings last week NPR played audio of a father who had lost his wife and child in one of the attacks. Everyone should hear these sounds of the civilians' grief. We're funding it.

They should show the soldiers' coffins returning.

They should show the casualty (wounded) figures.

We must not allow ourselves to be blinded to these things by the whore media.

9. He's right about one thing.
"The "staggering prospect" of civil war"

I'd be overjoyed if Bush took a few rational steps to try and prevent that prospect from being realized. But I'm not going to stop criticizing him if I think he's driving us off a cliff. That's patriotism, not partisanship. (kudos to Clark, btw)

10. I'm sure that Joe knows damn well that PNAC has taken over the DLC
He just wants to make it look like he talked Kerry into it. Either to promote himself, or to allow Kerry to milk his false "liberalism" a little while longer so he can get votes.

14. Bush uses 9/11 to say, Vote for me."
Lieberman uses 9/11 to say, "Fall in line, Bush's line."

Which use is more venal, huh?
