Splain this to me...
I am trying to figure out why anyone would vote "Present" for an important vote in the Senate?

I honestly don't know.

I am still undecided but this really bothers me.

Splain.

It's very simple.
Lots of bills aren't simple statements. Sometimes they cover one or more issue. Sometimes they have riders.

Sometimes bills are good but contain flaws. Voting "present" is a procedural matter. It means the bill can be fixed without killing it completely, or without passing a flawed bill.

Voting "present" is something any experienced senator would do.

7. Thank you for a non-snarky answer
I appreciate it.

Wouldnt a "present" vote only be letting someone else decide a bills passage or defeat though?

2. He was positioning himself for a run for president.
How is this worse than Clinton introducing a law to ban flag burning in the last Congress?
We're electing politicians, not saints. Just go with the one who you think will kick the most ass.

3. Are you talking about the U.S. senate?
Because as far as I know there is no "present" vote in the U.S. senate.

But then, I'm pretty sure you're not interested in a real answer to this question anyway, are you?

10. You would be wrong.
I am trying to figure out who the heck to vote for and I had an honest question. Not everyone asking questions has an agenda.

Surprise!

4. Planned Parenthood asked him to vote this way to protect conservative Democrats in Illinois Senate
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 07:15 PM by CreekDog
he resisted, but ultimately relented. a present vote is as good as a no vote, however, many of the bills were designed to embarass democrats in conservative leaning districts if they voted no. however, they were less at risk if they voted present. safe democrats were asked to vote present also in order to provide cover to the at risk democrats.

got it? that's what i learned.

6. If you're still truly undecided,
I sure hope you've assimilated all the stuff that has been pointed out about BO.

If he was president when JFK had to turn the missiles around that were heading for Cuba, he would have dropped a load in his knickers.

Consider that in the context of accidentally pushing the wrong button. It should read as simple as Jack and Jill.

14. Voting "no" is so negative.
I'm not going to vote for somebody who votes "no" on things.

17. There is much is like and dislike in both candidates.
Maybe it will come down to who do I think will have the best chance to win in Sept.

Either D beats a R anytime.

18. Me too,
But Obama is like skull and crossbones for me.

And the r's would have a field day with him. Remember, the independents in their party will come home to McCain. Experience and conservatism versus a kid.

Recycling all the Hillary stuff that's already been hashed ad infinitum and 56 million dollars worth of digging which came up with zero on Clinton, will do nothing but serve to turn people off. The more they hear, the more they will tune it out. And Hillary would walk to the win.

There is nothing left that they haven't already beat to death. And they can't hang the Kerry label of her being for the war before she was against it.

They will on Obama. I promise you!
