So Bush won in the least populated counties in America. Big friggin' deal.

5. It is a big deal
He's in the White House.

Over time, the Democrats simply have to find a way of pushing back into some of these Red counties nationwide which Bush took from Gore 4:1.

We can't just smugly say forget about them.

8. He's in the white house because he cheated
Think of how many of those counties that are red should be blue in Florida.

No look at the population of those counties.

It's a big deal my rosy ass.

6. It IS a big deal,
the South is solidly in the Republican camp, EVERY SINGLE STATE. We simply CANNOT hope to win back the WH and gain in the Congress and Senate without at least some Southern support. We cannot just write those states off unless we want to remain in the political wilderness. The repukes realized that thirty years ago and we're seeing the results of their stealth, focused strategy. It's time we did the same.

4. Wow.
I've seen the USA Today map before but it's always shocking. But forget the map, some of the comments were frightening.

7. Interesting how...
The freepers seem to believe we vote by acreage, not population.

My favorite maps came out in back to back issues of "Weekly News and World Report"... The first showed who the states voted for, Red for Bush, Blue for Gore. The second showed which states recieved more money in federal benefits than they paid in taxes in red, the ones that paid more than they recieved in blue... The two maps MATCHED except for two states; Texas and Florida. I showed these maps to every Republican I could find, it gave them fits. I wish I still had them, or had internet links to them. They were both from December of 2000, one week apart.

9. Dean is winning the South. Clark is not. Kerry can't win a bridge hand.

11. Those are early
poll numbers from democratic primaries, Scott. We're talking general election issues here. Forget the nomination battle for a moment because how those southern votes tally don't mean anything for the general election.

17. The Dems do not have to win ANYTHING in the south
if they win Ohio and West VA (which is do-able), although winning Florida (again) would be helpful.

Ironically, this is shown in an cool interactive map on a Southerner's site (Edwards):

http://www.johnedwards2004.com/map/

I'm NOT arguing that our good Dems in the South should be dismissed, ignored, patronized, or anything else like that.
