This thread is a spin off of Quioxte1818's thread about thinking twice about Obama because of his Healthcare plan...and don't worry, it's not bashing. -------------------
can understand where you're coming from...Obama has a lousy healthcare plan and I wish he were a little more bolder with it. With that in mind though, I'm 20 years old and healthcare isn't a #1 issue for me right now. Other than knees that feel like they're getting worn out because I run too much...I'm relatively healthy. You have to go with your gut. Like another poster above said, truth be told...there's not a big difference between Obama and Clinton's plans. And once they both go through the legislative process, politicians will try to weed certain things out. I'm a fan of Single-Payer myself...but my support for Obama goes farther than Healthcare. There are things he wants to do that none of the other 3 want. Case in point, Open Government is a big issue for me, but maybe not as much for you. Obama is the only one left running with that on his platform.
I'm hoping Obama is simply running on a more PR friendly Healthcare plan and will change his mind if he becomes President...like many of them do. It would be political assassination for him to run on a Single-Payer plan and I understand that. But he supported Single-Payer once while in the State Senate and has expressed "feelings" towards it more recently. So here's to HOPING...lol. Everyone knows that an "out of the closet" Progressive like John Edwards won't be given the time of day to succeed. While Obama was in the Illinois State Senate and US Senate, he has been one of the more liberal politicians. He is RUNNING as a moderate because that's what you need to do if you wish to get elected in this country. It's what I call, Hidden Progressivism. Do you guys honestly think that if Obama was an OPEN Progressive, all of these politicians, the MSM, newspapers, wall street, etc. would be endorsing him? HELL NO!! He would be shut out of the debate like all other openly Progressive politicians that have run for President. Called a long shot and radical. This is the aspect of his CHANGE rhetoric that most people are missing (maybe for the good). When he talked about REAL CHANGE, I believe he means it...but he can't get overly specific with it or he'll be risking political assassination. And the plans he does come out with are watered-down and PR. I fully believe Obama will do more for the Left if he becomes President than it currently appears.
