I believe you're the one who should be ashamed. And Obama has stated that he doesn't know how he would have voted had he been privy to the same intel and been in a position to actually vote.

IMHO, Obama's record of supporting the war once he got into Congress -- and his penchant for accepting rightwing frames -- suggests that he, like Hillary and Edwards would have voted for the AUMF. Obviously one can't know for sure -- and, as you note, even Obama isn't sure about that. So, I don't believe that his pre-Senate statements are proof positive that he wouldn't have given Bush wide berth like most of the Senate did.

I've had to look at other issues when deciding which of two largely similar candidates to vote for today.

Both sides can look back at that day and draw lessons relevant to the campaign. Some will see Hillary's AUMF vote as the definitive issue, and some won't. Some, like me, will be reminded of the hazards of groupthink.

Anyway, I don't want to divert from the essential point of Day of Shame: something is seriously broken in our country when such obvious and deadly lies are taken as truth.

Whether you're voting for Hillary or Obama (or even dear John Edwards) today, I hope you'll agree with that, and that you'll teach your children well.

Those tubes were pretty shiny and could sing their sirens song to convince even the most "anointed" among us.

... of what happened. How was the country so easily played? And why should we ever trust the media or a Republican ever again (and why should we "reach across the aisle" to them, as both Dems in the race say they want to do)?
