1. "Dean supporters are crazy"
"We are all hippie dorks"

"We all play acoustic guitar"

etc, etc...you get the picture.

2. ugh... I had hoped it woulda been a bit insightful..
and if they were saying that, then doesn't it make
the media seem like a bunch of dipshits given how much they
hyped Dean for 8 months?

3. They weren't saying that...

They were just running with that stereotype.

5. I didn't see it that way at all
I was expecting the worst from CNN and I was surprised how much of it dealth with the positive aspects of the Dean campaign and how little of the negative stuff (like the depression and chaos once the ship started going down)were shown. I was a devoted Deaniac, a Texas Ranger who (along with my daughter) to New Hampshire back in September, and it was like watching home movies of the good old days, to me. I thought the coverage of the Sleepless Summer Tour was terrific, and made me wish I had been part of that.

All that said, I do think CNN had a LOT to do with bringing the Dean campaign down.

Oh, and also, the program almost seemed to be more about Trippi than Dean.

6. Very little commentary
Pointed camera kind of thing. I thought it was pretty good and fair. I found it touching even. It was mostly Trippi, because it was the campaign staff view and he was the leader there.

7. It really was pretty lame.
It just wasn't that great, IMHO. CNN hyped it up all week but it wasn't too exciting. Not really a documentary, just some "behind the scenes" footage thrown together.

8. I was shocked by the sacrifice
ritual. How did you guys find a volcano in Iowa anyway?

9. Interesting, but not as analytical as I expected

Your hear about secretive and precise internal polls, glorified rubbish, IMO. Sure enough, the CNN special depicted Trippi and the Dean campaign immediately fixated on every poll number but clueless to their meaning, or accuracy.

I was expecting a documentary, not a home movie. The passion of Dean's Sleepless Summer tour was remarkable, but I was disappointed at the empty transitions in the CNN program, skipping months at a time without any thoughtful analysis of warning signs, or what Dean could have done differently.

Joe Trippi was stunned his "this time it's the people, stupid" did not scatter the media contingent, gleefully reporting his brilliance. Further evidence how lame our message and sound bytes have been, post-Clinton. Although I understand Kerry's commercials are terrific.
