Saw a 2000 election map in which the states won by 5% or less by both the Repubs and Dems were indicated. As I kept studying it, I couldn't come up with much reason that those in the Dem camp (and those solidly won by the Dems) would have reason to swing to the Repub camp in 2004. BUT, I could see those with the 5% or less victory for the repubs, having reason to swing to the Dems. Here are the 5% or less states (I might have not listed all--but close).
Won by the Dems with less than 5%: Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Maine (can't remember what happened in Minnesota). Won the Repubs with less than 5%: Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Missouri (can't remember if there were others). Anway, all these states (particularly from midwest over to Pennsylvania, etc.) have been gutted of jobs. I cannot see us losing those in our column. What has Bush done for them or offered them?? However, I can see those repub states moving towards the Dem for exactly the same reasons. Will they move far enough to come up Blue on election night?? Unfortunately when it comes to Florida, I believe we could win by 10 and a half zillion votes but it will still glow red on election night because there is no way to get around the Bush political crime syndicate down there. If you live in any of these 5% states, what are you seeing?? (P.S.--I don't see that there will be enough significant movement in any of the states that were solidly Dem or Repub in 2000 with the exception, perhaps of New Hampshire. The New England factor may just push them into the Dem column).
