2. I often wonder what direction DU will go
We don't really have support skills to match our attack skills... Maybe we just keep hounding Bush and co. to the end of the earth?

4. considering that we talk about democratic issues that are not covered
alot then yes. I'm sure we will find lots of different things to share and information to disiminate under Obamas presidancy, thats just politics. Its up to the citizenry to be the watch dogs otherwise we are complacent in any wrong doing that might be happening. The day I completly trust my government is the day I quit DU.

8. You think it ever really was an "underground"?
"Undergrounds" are secret. DU has been wide-open to the public since day one.

9. It's not like our views will be running things
We are considerably, for the most part, lefter than most Democrats in office.

10. We need to keep the pressure on them to do the right thing.
There will be a lot of forces trying to co-opt them, get them to forget all those promises they made during the primaries. When our candidate gets in, I believe the honeymoon will last about a month. Then we will get to work driving them crazy, because that's what we do. Just ask Nancy Pelosi.

11. I see it this way
WHEN we take the White House, the mighty wurlitzer of right-wing outrage will once again, go full blast. Whichever Dem wins is going to have one hell of a time deflecting the nasty nasty jibes of the mass-media/corporate machine.

I remember not long after Clinton first won, there was a Time (Newsweek?) cover that showed a graphic of a tiny Bill Clinton - along with the text: "The Amazing Shrinking President".

I absolutely remember thinking to myself: "Now there's a switch. No way in hell would we have seen a major news magazine with a cover like that during the Reagan/Bush years."

So, yes. We shall continue to be necessary because jerkwads like Limbaugh, Hannity and the rest made their fortunes on the backs of our collective success. WHEN we win, they'll be more popular than ever.

13. First of all, we have to nominate a candidate who can WIN
until then, discussions about what we're going to do once we're in are premature.

14. "We" aren't taking back the White House.
I'm resigned to the idea that the best we can hope for is a more benign form of "them".

Yeah, there'll still be a need for a Democratic Underground.

15. We're a bunch of middle-class wonks. The *bourgeoisie*.
We love the sizzle of revolution but eat the steak of privilege.

because most likely we will still, by and large, be further to the left than our government.

17. Just wait. Within a month, Obama or Clinton will have done something
to piss us off, and we'll be plotting primary challenges and in-fighting all over again.
