****BREAKING! CBS NEWS: Obama takes lead in overall delegate count, INCLUDING Supers*****
Even Obama's own campaign said they didn't expect to win Maine, according to a document the campaign said was accidentally leaked earlier in the week.

In the delegate chase, Obama has pulled ahead of Clinton, even when the support of uncommitted super delegates is figured in. According to CBS News estimates, Obama holds a razor-thin lead with 1,134 delegates overall to 1,131 for Clinton.

The results in Maine came in the wake of a shake-up on the Clinton campaign. Sunday afternoon, Clinton campaign manager Patti Patti Solis announced she was stepping down from that post. She will be replaced by senior advisor and longtime Clinton confidant Maggie Williams.

5. Well I think this marks the end of Supers endorsing Hillary
This Obama tide will probably mean that most Supers will either endorse Obama or wait until August, either way is good for him.

and apologized, she would have eliminated her biggest liability. Pride kept her from doing that, and it may well cost her the nomination.

25. So awesome!
He began the campaign with the deck stacked against him. Through nothing short of sheer organizational/administrative brilliance he's parlayed a grass roots effort and a funny name into a political movement.

He's outraised an established and powerful political machine in terms of money. And while the opposing campaign has run out of money, he's spent his more judiciously and effectively, despite the fact that he doesn't have "35 years of experience." He's also devised a winning strategy and seems to have planned ahead better than the opposition.

He started the game with no points, while his opponents were spotted points in the game, and despite that he's managed to pull ahead.

Incredible. :bounce:

26. Most of Hillary's Supers comitted very very early
There were alot of early "arm twisting" - by Bill Clinton and others early on to give her a substantial edge in super delegates long long long before Iowa.

I doubt she can garner as many new ones at this stage.

Still Obama is the underdog given the HUGE strength of the Clinton Machinery in states like Texas and Ohio.

Obama supporters should hit the web and donate a few bucks tonight, and whatever else do NOT get overconfident.

104. She will lose a lot of the "committed" ones too.
A SD would have to be nuts to hold to that pledge if the will of the voters is clearly the other direction.

Plus, we can say one thing for certain about the superdelegates. Every one of them is a politician -- by definition. And by definition, they are genetically programmed to move to the winning side. That what makes them different from humans. At this moment there are a whole bunch of them planning their exit.

When she loses it is front page. That is why we don't have John Edwards. Even when he was second he couldn't get above "Hillary's loss".

Was the former manager, Ms. Solis, fired? We can't say for sure. Either way, it is a great risk to make so drastic a change at this juncture. We'll see if it was a wise move for the Clinton campaign or not.

Let's see that makes Bush, Rove, Fox, CBS, Rush, Ann Coulter and how many other GOP'ers who want Obama to win.

TX, OH, and PA still to come with plenty more delegates that Clinton will win.

Either way, it will be a brokered convention, neither candidate can get enough delegates w/o it.

40. you noticed that too
I believe it is because they are grouping the "super Delegates" as they see them potentially distributed.

AS I mentioned in another blog here...
Most people I know have been far more enthusiastic about this presidential race than I can recall in any other time in my political memory. However, this disturbing situation with the possibility that so called "Super Delegates" could overrule the democratically chosen people's choice threatens to quash all of this promising enthusiasm as well as turn-out.

My wife is leaning toward Clinton and I intend to vote for Obama. However, we will forgo voting in the general election if the DNC does not pledge that these "Super Delegates" will unanimously back the peoples choice at the convention NO MATTER WHO IT IS! We would rather let the Republicans gain back the office than bastardize democracy once more.

55. The whole system of super delegates is not a great idea
Regardless of who ends up winning the nomination or who is ahead at any given time, this system is not very democratic. Super delegates have a disproportionate amount of influence over a primary system that is supposed to be in the hands of the electorate. I'm just sayin.

Why is this such big news?
Super delegates can switch who they committed for, and there goes his lead.
There are still more primaries, and Clinton will surely win at least a couple of them.

97. The Bushes had a father-son dynasty. Hillary is only related to Bill by marriage

so when she becomes president, it will be as a person who didn't know the former President Clinton until they met in law school at Yale. That's not a dynasty.

People who say she shouldn't win because Bill was president are denying Hillary her autonomy as a person.

77. Great news....but,
Pleeeeeeeze Obama people, lets not celebrate too much yet.

It's a marathon, and I think Obama is paced to win! :)

But doing back flips over a few vote lead is premature.

Sorry for the buzzkill - I just hope Obama folks continue with the relentless pursuit of victory and assume nothing is in the bag - got a ways to go. I assume Hillary will pull out no stops to win this thing.

But after tomorrow night, it looks like Obama will have won 8 straight states!

If Obama wins 2 of the following 3 states (TX, OH, or PA) then it will be time to party!!!!There will be no firewall left.

peace~:)

80. The AP and CNN disagree
AP - 1,136 to 1,108 - http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080211/ap_on_el_pr/superdelegates
CNN - 1,148 to 1,121 - http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/

Point being, we can all look anywhere to find numbers that we see as favorable.

94. Msnbc says otherwise
Msnbc has Hillary still ahead by like...25 delegates. I really, really, really, really hate the super delegate system. It wasn't designed for this type of situation....

Still, I have hope.

110. Of course you don't, since they run counter to the dogma around here
The point is that different news outlets are tallying in slightly different ways. The CBS version isn't the gospel truth any more or any less than the AP and CNN versions, which still put Clinton ahead, are.

111. Super Delegates will Follow the Winner
Super Delegates will not decide this election.
They will always go with the winner; they have no commitments.

Folks -- let's not jump ahead of ourselves.
I know everybody is excited and ready to kick Hillary supporters while we're down.

But this is tied.
That means nobody is winning.

Like Super Delegates, momentum has no commitments.
