Good analysis of Feb. 19 Wisconsin primary ... link
looks like both sides have some advantages, should be a good contest. My personal guess is that it will be so close that one candidate only ends up winning a few net delegates, though.

2. do you have any grassroots Obama places near you?
GOTV is a big deal. if there isn't one you should get a couple of people together and start one in your area and go door-to-door. That is what we have done in VA, last week the national campaign arrived and they are directing us now. It has been a great experience.

I can run over here, get something to drink and then go. I'll get a late dinner. :-) I still lean voting Hillary in the primary, but I am excited at what Obama is doing to mobilize my friends. They're the most apathetic bunch you've ever seen and now they're nearly as excited as I normally am. Something must be working. I might change my mind.

36. Madison and Milwaukee are the bulk of the Democratic votes.
However, people should not underestimate how many Democrats are in Waukesha. They are often a neglected bunch. I know this because I was one from 2000-2005 until I moved to Madison. Much more at home here.

46. There are a large number of Democrats in the Milwaukee suburbs that are often overlooked
because they are so outnumbered by the Republicans in the area. In 2004, over 110,000 Democratic votes came from Waukesha, Washington, and Ozaukee counties put together. That's more than Madison proper. We're an overlooked group. I say "we" due to the fact nobody thinks any Democrats live in those counties.

53. Yeah. I think my point was that I was talking to a friend of mine who has been doing
calls for Obama and he asked me where he could do the most good. I told him that Madison was pretty damn well covered. I said work on District 5. There's a good number of Democrats there, but we're overlooked by most politicians. They tend to have college educations and high incomes, well at least my Democratic family does. ;-)

Wisconsin votes the same day as Hawaii. I think Wisconsin will be "you can't really count it" and Hawaii will be "you absolutely can't even think about counting that one". I think both New York and Arkansas should count

23. Wisconsin is an open primary, Obamababies.
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 11:32 PM by Yossariant
Open primaries favor Obama so he will win.

An open primary is one where Republicans can vote in the Democratic primary.

Raiding is when the opposing party crosses over to vote for the weakest opposition candidate.

Obama won 5 out of the 6 open primaries on Super Tuesday.

Anyone who thinks he can win the general election has lost a few cards.

47. There are a number of conclusions one could draw from that
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 11:50 PM by alcibiades_mystery
1) Paranoid Fantasy involving coordinated effort to vote for weakest general election candidate. THis sort of stuff may happen in small towns and the like, and even there it is dubious at best. The notion that this happens in large elections is the fantasy of online paranoids and other imbeciles, or is their rather laughable way of trying to demoralize primary opponents.

2) Obama has crossover appeal. He wins open primaries because many voters who are not registered Democrats actually want him to be President. Gasp.

Needless to say, #1) (for which there is no proof other than a laughbale "definition" aiming, pathetically, for knowledge) would be BAD, while #2 would be GOOD.

How to choose, how to choose? For #1, you can always get a chuckle by asking the knuckleheads who believe such things to support it with evidence of any kind whatsoever. The evidence they assemble to prove it is the funny part.

60. The Supreme Court?

Hawaii justifies its write in ban in primary elections as a way to prevent party raiding. Petitioners argue that this alleged interest is suspect because the State created the party raiding problem in the first place by allowing open primaries. I agree.

That's the best you can do?

I know you're smart, so I know you don't really think that link supports your contention that such voting has been proven in any large election. The decision speaks merely to the argument made by state, as you well know. Keep trying, though! Next time, maybe something empirical would help. Good luck.
