In 88 after winning Mich he led in elected delegates and was the frontrunner - winning 11 contests
and then scored March victories in Alaska's caucuses and the Texas local conventions

Indeed, Mr. Jackson won seven primaries (Alabama, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and Virginia) and four caucuses (Delaware, Michigan, South Carolina and Vermont).

He won 55% of the vote in the Michigan Democratic caucus. He was the frontrunner for the nomination. I worked for his nomination.

And indeed his campaign was different from Obama's - Jesse actually was experienced and had paid his dues, and had a coherent policy program that was both reflective of his past positions, and more progressive and more likely to be enacted than his opponents programs should they have been elected.

And Jesse did not try to gin up the black vote by claiming victim status - by claiming Dukakis had a surrogate that had dropped a phrase that could be stretched to mean disrespect to blacks - by claiming his opponent had played the "race card" or by having those in his campaign sell the media on that idea.

Indeed Jesse did not own the corporate media like Obama has for last 6 months - the media was not anti-Greek/anti-Dukakis and the Dulakis family. Yet Jesse won Michigan - while Obama did not manage to get a plurality of folks in Michigan voting "uncommitted" despite the Obama fierce campaign and the 90% black vote for that idea.

Yes, Obama is no Jesse.

1. Wasn't Jesse's name actually ON the Michigan ballot?
Kinda makes a difference, don't ya think?

6. Yep. Jesse was even smart enough to leave his name on the MI ballot.

7. Since Edwards did it too, that was probably the understood agreement.
Jackson left his name on the ballot because there was no agreement that he would remove it. Different case than Obama.

8. Wrong.They did it to pander to the early states. If that was the "understood" agreement, why not FL?
Democratic candidates John Edwards, Barack Obama, Bill Richardson and Joe Biden have withdrawn their names from the ballot to satisfy Iowa and New Hampshire, which were unhappy Michigan was challenging their leadoff status on the primary calendar.

9. Because MI was first and they learned that HRC didn't know how to play fair?
...that's another way to look at it...

11. No. That's a tortured excuse. They didn't care about the MI voters so they could pander to NH and IA

I see that you, too, have a problem trying to figure out What Oabma Really Meant.

And I'm shocked.

12. Regardless, your attempt to compare the races is laughable.
The situations are completely different. If somebody's name isn't on the ballot, you can't compare their vote count with somebody's who is.

once you're on the Florida ballot you can't get off. See Mark Foley in 2006. :)

maybe 1988 at the national convention (is that right?). Little off-topic, but I still love watching the saturday night live clip when he read Dr Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham right after Theodore Geisel died.

13. Today's Clinton meme seems to be Obama=Jesse=BLACK candidate Round 2
This nonsensical comparison has made the rounds on DU several times today. It's not some DUers opinion. It's the meme of the day from Hillaryland.
