Poll question: Was Kerry's "gaffe" a ploy to gain support from Deaniacs?
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 08:14 AM by BullGooseLoony
Seems to me that Kerry wouldn't be dumb enough to say something like that while the mic was on simply by accident. What do you think?

1. I don't think it was an accident
However, I doubt it was about getting Deaniacs on board. JMO. :)

21. Kerry's Non-Mistake Had SQUAT To Do With Deaniacs Specifically.
IT was a statement of fact that many Americans know to be true on SOME level.

23. Riiiight.
So, sounds like his meeting with DEAN went pretty well. I heard they discussed how they were going to get DEAN SUPPORTERS on board, and that it was the central theme of the meeting.

Oh, no, that's right. Dean supporters don't matter! We don't need their votes! Dean supporters are not fit to clean Kerry's boots!!! Kerry would NEVER look for their support!

Uh huh.

2. I don't see how it was a mistake.
It was not something like swearing into the microphone or anything like that. However, as a Deaniac, I really liked it. :)

34. Yes
I don't know if it was specifically purposed at getting Dean voters, but I mentioned to a friend after hearing about it that it would go over well with Dean supporters.

I know I am a tremendous fan of Dean still, and I liked it quite a bit. If he really wants to get us away from Nader, making him the VP would be the only sure way.

As far as the comment, I don't think it'll damage him any more than the asshole/bigtime comment did for frick and frack. He will solidify his base.

All of that being said, I doubt seriously he did it on purpose, but you would think a lifetime politico would be aware of microphone proximity.

3. Genuine
The "liars and crooked" utterance was a genuine expression of the visceral anger Kerry feels toward the rotten way Shrub's campaign has treated him and Teresa. Most Dems and independents feel the same about Shrub's crowd. The GOP hasn't threatened or filed a libel suit, have they?

36. Yes,
I completely agree. The beginning of the "Gore"ing of Kerry (or "Deaning" more recently) with the media has certainly begun. Not just this, but they ripped apart Kerry's mention of the allies wanting Bush out of office too. They will be critical of anything he says now, as they are fully conservative, corporatist media now.

They still have their myrmidons out there calling the media left-wing. What we need is all of the democrats that show up on these shows pointing out how conservative all of the media has become. Numerous quoted examples can be had, all they have to do is open their eyes. Gore's clothes, sighs, mis-statements are a good place to start, and mentions of the total lack of liberal hosts are another. We need to hear "right-wing media" until we are sick of it, to counter their constant BS "left-wing" lie.

7. Kerry is brilliant
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 07:45 AM by Atman
They knew Bush was going to be an attack dog. This was part of Kerry's plan...keep Bush on the defensive instead of allowing him to frame the debate. It is working great...the entire day yesterday, Kerry's attack filled the news, not Bush's lies abotu the economy.

They set out on this journey expecting to be bloodied. Kerry knows Bush well, what type of vermin infest his nest. He is showing the angry dems...most of us...that he isn't going to be an Al Gore or Mike Dukakis, and just yell "Please sir, may I have another!?" every time Bush lies about him. I, for one, would just leave the country if Kerry starts taking on a pussy stance like his predecessors. America is on the verge of revolution. I think America is about to be awakened p to that concept. Not a moment too soon.

ANYTIME our candidate speaks the truth, it's a good thing. I think we should contact the campaign and resoundingly express our approval for the statement.

Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 07:49 AM by robbedvoter
It must be hard to believe, but there are people in this world doing stuff without thinking of you guys at all
Clark also said: "I'll beat the shit out of them" a few month ago off the record, with the mics going.
isn't it great when our guys sound off the record just like us?

Didn't you see the guy messing around Sen. Kerry's waistband? That's where the transmitter is normally placed, and I genuinely think he thought the guy had turned it off, and just said what he really thinks.

I LOVED it, btw!

18. Mistake or not, it works for me
They are crooks and liars, and much worse.

They represent the antithesis to everything that is good and decent in our society.

They destroy democracy, wage aggressive war and condemn ordinary people to impovershment.

They are vermin who need to be hunted down and exterminated.

This is one Deaniac who is starting to warm up to Kerry.

19. That's the pattern I'm seeing.
As a Dean supporter, I started seeing it in myself a few days ago, when Kerry said "I'm quaking" in response to Cheney's charge that he's an indecisive leader. I've also seen it in a few other Dean supporters just this morning. I think he's making a play for us.

That's alright, though. If we convince him to start showing leadership, then I think we've done our job.

Did he say these things before or after he met with Dean?

22. he's done this before
at least two personal comments about Bush before, that has nothing to do with Dean.

Vanity Fair interview where he said how Bush hasn't changed since college.

Rolling Stone interview where he said Bush fucked up Iraq.

24. There's a big difference between saying Bush f*cked up
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 11:15 AM by BullGooseLoony
and saying that he's a lying crook. Using obscenity is nothing compared to that kind of personal attack.

On edit: Don't get me wrong, I love what he said. I'm saying that this isn't like him, though.

25. For a guy people say can use "nuance"--
this one was a little off of the mark. Although I appreciated hearing it, I believe he could use a bit of practice.

Maybe Dean could coach him. :+

27. I never saw Dean as especially harsh on Bush
in fact, when Dean was attacking Kerry and the other cockroaches last summer, reporters were begging Kerry to respond but Kerry kept declining to even say Dean's name. Instead, Kerry saved his criticisms for Bush.

29. Dean was always the harshest on Bush
except for maybe DK or Sharpton.

Why are Kerry supporters trying to act like Kerry's been the one who's been so tough against Bush, all along? All of their memories are changing. It's pretty funny. Kerry's the firebrand now. Yeah, right.

Sorry, but I have a GOOD memory.

And you don't remember the debates being "Let's Bash Dean" time? I remember Dean trying to be nice, but the other candidates, including Kerry, kept on hitting him, so he hit back. Dean would say that we need to get the south voting for us again, and the other candidates would say How DARE YOU, Sir!!! LOL

32. I remember it quite differently
I remember a lot of the criticism of Kerry is that he didn't answer Dean's constant attacks. There was strife within the Kerry campaign about that, in fact his fall shakeup may even have been along those lines.
