Obama fever has ignited the black branch of my family
My white family tree has for decades had a large and multi-intersected branch of a black family.
They are collectively on fire about the possibility of Barrack Obama as President.

There are daily calls and rundowns of the numbers of delegates along with ruminating and speculating and the paying of very close attention.

They have never before been particularly politically involved or interested, and have been tolerant of me and the marching I did over what has been happening in Washington in the last 7 years, dismissing it as something we can do nothing about.

Just watching this excitement gives me a crystal clear picture of what is happening in this country with the under privileged, the people who have abandoned hope, and those who have given up thinking they will ever be at the colletive table as equals.

Which of course translates to the powerless all around us.
It is not just a matter of color.

1. Mira thanks for sharing.
There is an excitement that I haven't experienced before. And more people are actually getting educated about the process, this is going to be an interesting year.

4. I gotta say...I kinda wish my family was multiracial.
All those beautiful, interesting people you meet in New York who tell you: "Yeah, I'm an eighth Cherokee, another eighth Puerto Rican, a quarter Black, and the rest of me is Italian..."

Then I have to admit that all of my family members are boring ol' Eastern European Jews. That might seem exotic in, say, South Dakota, but do you realize how many of us there are in New York City? :(

7. There's a radio station in my area that carries black radio programs
like warren ballantyne and al sharpton. It's really something--gratifying, heartening--to hear the excitement in the black community around obama--it's a total shift in the political landscape for (some) african americans. As an Obama supporter, I get extra pumped listening to it. It's sort of a vicarious pleasure. Actually, not vicarious, I feel connected to them.
