I just add them to my buddy list, then in myDU you can click on "buddy list" and quickly see a list of people whose profiles you can click on.

It would be nice if a tombstone icon showed up next to the names of ts'ed people, though. But I doubt the admins want to make my little game easier.

Anyone on your buddy list who has a journal turns up in the 'Journal Tracker' section. No, no-one can find out who's on other people's buddy lists (except the database administrator, I suppose).

You are right. How can P2BA be banned when another "pro" who posts as many threads, almost all of them inflammatory as P2BA's allegedly were can stay? P2BA posted opinions. This "pro" and another cat are opposition research machines. I don't think either should be banned but the Obamite thug hypocrisy is on full display when they fete these two while they finally successfully lynched P2BA. They took down 3 of the biggest Obama critics just this week.

There are more than a few Obama supporters who, to us, are ten X more annoying than P2BA, some of these Obama supporters who aren't even Obama supporters for real, but just anti-Clinton people...and some of those being from the "I was for it before I was against it" camp of followers. ;)

IMO, the most vicious, most hateful, and most vitriolic comments are posted by Obama supporters (not you by any means) towards both of the Clintons. I am positive that some of those are republicans who have come here and cleverly disguised themselves as faux Obama supporters just so they can rant and rave about the Clintons. Don't get me wrong...there are lots of genuine Obama supporters, but a lot who aren't.

especially that there are Obama supporters who aren't truly even Obama supporters, but are instead simply anti-Clinton. Moreover, I agree that some of these are even Republicans. And I think they should be shown the door just as quickly as these recently tombstoned "Clinton supporters" were.

I don't necessarily agree that there was anyone worse than P2BA on either side, but that's probably just because it's easier to see the vitriol when it's being thrown at you. In any case, I hope that we can remove any and all trolls from this site (as a three-term moderator, believe me, nothing makes me happier than a troll-free DU) and get back to having congenial, of occasionally contentious, conversations about politics. These last couple months have seemed just absurd -- we're all Democrats after all. Except for the aforementioned trolls, of course.

Yup, and I agree with what you're saying, SR, especially about the trolls having to be weeded out. Mostly their purpose is to come here and post things that will divide the forum in two. They're very successful and clever how some of them go about it. A few weeks ago I noticed, for example, this one person with a relatively low post count who started a bunch of ridiculous threads one night trying to pit "youth" vs "boomers". He kept caling out the "boomers" on DU as if they were washed-up, useless citizens who weren't nearly as smart as the youthful Obama voters who he was making believe he was a part of. I think it was just another ploy to divide this place any way they think they can.

I think that a bunch of them just went too far all at once. Based on my personal observations, a bunch of them went too far all at once. Things really took a dive around here in the past week.

I'd guess that there are several warnings out now, which if unheeded, will lead to further tombstones.

...everybody saw the writing on the wall, even P2BA. He seemed to get melancholy and joked about “no matter what rules they put in, I'll manage to survive”. Pretty much owning up to his disruption.

He was an out of control jerk who tried to change up when it was clear the end was near, posting “that's troubling” in 90% of his posts and then finally spazzing out again the last couple of days.

Him, the “X-Man”, the atomic particle and especially Nim, all had it comin'.

They got it.

Hopefully it's a lesson to the remaining “skaters” on the warming ice. :)

But over the weekend there was an invasion of socks, lots of them. If they were tracked to existing accounts, there would be a TS outbreak to show for it. Not always the case, but I've thought I noticed it at times in the past. This weekend it really seemed like an organized event with so many new screen names popping up every other minute.

No, as far as I know, there's no simple metric by which people get banned - not how many ignore you, not how many alerts you garner, nothing like that. The way it's been explained is that the mods come to a consensus on whether a poster is a disruptor or not.

There's no "magic number" of ignores or anything like that.

Unless a poster is an obvious troll - really obvious - or a sockpuppet of someone previously banned, they will have to break the DU rules over and over again - ignoring warnings - to be banned.

DU welcomes vigorous, substantive posts. You'll know if you are in danger of being banned. The mods will have been in touch with you.

where an unelected informal controlling faction has gained control of nearly all the listserves (except the one that I was moderator of that I made a c/c of before they destroyed it along with archives of thousands of posts by over 100 posters over 6+ months) and this faction has systematically banned EVERYONE associated with the Democracy Alliance (the group I am aligned with, which, especially given the lack of access, is smaller) from even being able to COMMUNICATE through the listserves with our fellow members.
I would send one post arguing against the views expressed by some on a listserve and boom! the post is banned and I am kicked off the listserve.

I know that I've been on DU for years and they don't run things like that. But still -- I can't help looking at the context, apparently also a problem for dissidents in the labor movement.

211. I cleared out my list a couple weeks ago but
was just getting ready to add some back. I printed out the list before I cleared it... 5 are gone and 1 suspended. The mods really walk a tightrope and are very patient and give people lots of chances, which is admirable. After all who among us is perfect.

She was incapable of civil discourse. She adopted a rude, authoritarian and obnoxious tone with about 90% of the board. It was the authoritarian "if you don't agree 100% with me you must be an idiot" tone that was the worst. Unless I wanted to read something lacking in all substance and filled with insults, I wouldn't read her posts. It wasn't that everything she said was without substance-it was just how low the substance to insult ratio was in her posts.
