The DNC just called--
Here is what I said.

The DNC wants to know who I will vote for and support.

The woman calling was very kind. I told her in no uncertain terms that my primary was in April and that I would vote for Howard Dean. I told her that I am 46 years old and that I am a Deaniac. I told her that I would contribute more money only through a Dean organization.

I told her that the front loaded primaries were a mistake.

I asked her, then, if she knew what I was talking about--was she just a paid telly-caller (since she had a Brit accent- not fair of me)--or did she understand? She reassured me that she understood.

I told her then that I will vote for Kerry, but I will still retain, support, and stand for what we, as Howard Dean supporters, stand for.

She knew EXACTLY what I was talking about, and I know that she had heard it before. She said so.

Cheers, guys.

We're making an impact.

1. Do you know what's going on with Dean's new organization?

2. Just bits and pieces.
I think it is including some of the groups already set up, and it is my understanding they will be peripheral....which I think is best.

The main goal as I understand it is to get Democrats in congress who share Dean's views and who will stand up the right wing ideologues.

He stated that he will use the grassroots to help Kerry get elected.

12. I know enough from our historic Dean campaign to know that
American history matters and that it is still very much in play in the Dean campaign.

People have to make a difference.

And the tea IS in the harbor, though people haven't noticed that yet.

The more American history is revisited, the more it will favor Dean.

It is a blessing.

14. I'm impressed by what Dean's doing
Normally folks who lose races just drop out into nothingness. But Dean seems to be using it as a starting point instead of an ending point.

16. Yes, that is a good thing.
I think he has had this in his mind for a long time. Now if he would just tell us.

3. Good for you janx!
I got an email from the DNC, and gave them a similar response. It would feel really satisfying to get a call though and say it to a real person.

I really hope that I do get a call, and have a real chance to give them a piece of my mind.:)

Ha ha, I just ran spell check and it didn't like DNC and suggested DUNC as a substitute. Kind of fitting. :7

4. I got the DNC "support Kerry now" email too,
but I really spoke to this woman and had to try and remain civil and respectful. At one point I had to apologize.

But I told her that I would not send money directly to the DNC. I just can't do that.

There's too much manipulation.

5. Some Dean people got a very bad response at HQ.
I have heard from a couple who were told off for putting forth that the frontloaded primaries needed changing.

Sounds like they were decent to you, so that is good. Someone in the public relations section at the DNC told a friend that they were fools and did not belong in the party. That is 2nd hand from the friend, but she is pretty honest about how stuff goes down.

They were angry about the petition to the DNC. They refuse to acknowledge it, I gather.

6. Wow! I didn't even remember that. They may have called me
because of the petition. She started off asking me questions, but she did not seem surprised when I veered off from the questions she was asking.

7. They called one person a fool.
I don't know anymore than that. I know a whole bunch of people who defended the petition....which was NOT bad at all.....were banned from the DNC forum.

I did not see any ugly threads, just some that questioned the status quo. I don't post there, so I don't know the usual atmosphere. Banning other Democrats who are questioning is NOT a good thing.

I think I saved one post I found...let me check.

Hey, Janx, check your inbox.

9. Ok, here is a post I found directed to people defending the petition.
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 11:33 PM by madfloridian
SNIP...."We do gladly suffer fools in our "living room"(and even on occasion have
BEEN fools ourselves), but we do not suffer trolls, single-issue
polemicists, windbags, or anyone who comes in for the sole purpose of
stirring up trouble. If your friend appeared to be such a one and we were
wrong about him, then let him come back and prove us wrong; if we were
right, let him mend his ways."..

Fellow democrats were called trolls, windbags, etc. This was on the DNC forum.

I saved it so I could prove a point.

15. They should read more books and gain more nouns and adjectives,

at the very least.

You know, I have missed good books as well, but at least I have not missed the company of dogs.

10. I was polite, MF, but I was also animated.
I let them know that voters like me were disenfranchised by this "front loaded" primary process.

I did not state that I was a signer of that petition, but I firmly believe that that's why I was called.

13. They don't know me. I'm a short story writer and teacher;
I'm not a typical party hack--just a literal (or literary!) one.

;-)

But that's why it matters--at least to me.
