Join teachers in writing for Paige to step down

Please visit the NEA website to help teachers demand that Rod Paige step down as Secretary of Education for calling the NEA "a terrorist organization." The site features letters that you can send to Secretary Paige, President Bush, and your legislators.

Please help defend teachers from this baseless namecalling all in the name of demonizing those who speak out against how Paige's Department of Education is implementing the flawed "No Child Left Behind" Act (the ESEA -- Elementary and Secondary Education Act that was "reformed" and reauthorized in 2001). The NEA has had legitimate complaints about how Secretary Paige has used the NCLB Act to try to usher in national vouchers by undercutting support for Title 1 schools and shifting the burden of funding these programs to the states. Some states are refusing federal title moneys in protest to the burden that NCLB places on our nation's state and local governments.

MoveOn.org, among other groups, have joined us in protesting Paige's corruption, ineptitude, and blatant disrespect for teachers. Please join us too as we whip Paige into shape or whip him out the door!!!

is a retired teacher...

I spotted her yesterday taking a walk, and went over to give her a couple of my "Like father like son, one term, and he's done" bumper stickers

we spent about an hour talking about bush*, and of course the "teachers are terrorists" comment by Paige.

she snickered and asked if I was going to turn her in for being a terrorist.. I said that I wouldn't, because she's a retired terrorist

this resulted in a bumper sticker suggestion "If you can read this - thank a terrorist", "My son/daughter is an honor roll terrorist..."

meanwhile - regarding the NEA website -- done and done

I sent an email to the Dept of Education immediately and used the other listed website to sign the petition. This clown just needs to find another line of work. I must enjoy the republican indignation at Kerry's comments but, it's okay for them to call those who oppose them unpatriotic, terrorists or nazi's. I am so happy that their's is not a one sided point of view and they embrace all opinions (just as long as it is their's).
